The truths in this book are so simple, yet so hard to see without being told. It opened my eyes to things I had never before considered and kick myself for not realizing earlier.
Nee is generally a hard read/listen. Not because the writing is dull, but, because it is so rich and full. You have to dedicate real time to his books, this one included. I've had to rewind a few times, but it is well worth it.
This is one of the first books I read as a new believer 3 decades ago. I had always wanted to reread it, then I stumbled on it here in audio format. This is one of the few books that I recommend every Christian read. Essentially, its is a discourse on the book of Romans, but is done in a very conversational style.
The narrator for this book was well chosen and he is very easy to listen to. He never gets in the way of the text. Highly recommended in book AND audio form.
Every believer should read this book to solidify their standing in Christ. This audiobook is narrated so well and Paul Michael expresses, what I feel was Watchman Nee's intent, extremely well. I have listened to some chapters over ten times now and I am still learning.
Tim van Akker,
This book ranks 1st in my audiobooks collection.
The material was fresh and inviting. It caused me to think about my normal christian walk. I must say a lot of weight fell off my shoulders after learning about the normal christian life. It transformed my thinking and gave me a new admiration for the christian life.
Tremendous asset to any library.
Didn't mind listening to it all at once.
For any believer who may be struggling with a lack of understanding about the christian life, strongly suggest for a new believer and a seasoned one as well.
"I listen to learn"!
yes I prefer the audio but I don't know that not reading it for yourself is a good thing. Watchman Nee has the ability to remind of what Gods word says in regard to how we should be versus mans.
Yes, but I could not
I became interested in this author after hearing Joyce Myer mention him. The book was excellent. I learned so much and listened to the book twice in succession to make sure I had not missed any great teaching.
Watchman Nee presents the idea that as descendants of Adam we existed in and with him from the beginning and now are subject to fallen natures. All Christians should be familiar with the secrets in this Christ centered book, understanding why we need redemption and how Christ's sacrifice satisfies that need. Highly recommended.
I bought the audio version after reading the print version, because this book is so awesome spiritually and I wanted to apply its insights more deeply into my inner spirit. Reading the book while listening is yet another way to absorb the material more deeply.
Watchman Nee's emphasis on the blood of the cross for forgiveness and the power of the cross for transformation within, is the heart of this study of the first eight chapters of Romans. But in the later chapters he thoroughly describes life in the Spirit with a clarity of writing style and depth of spirituality that has made him one of the great spiritual teachers of the twentieth century. We all desperately need more of the cross in our lives, a deeper surrender to it and a thorough consecration to Jesus Christ. Watchman Nee shows us the way.
Listening to a book is another medium for absorbing its content, another sense. The eyes are one sense, the ears another. When put together, the learning experience is just that more profound. The audio brings out nuances that are sometimes missed in reading. With a book as profound as this, repeated listening and reading is required.
Lift High the Cross!
This book seemed so hard at first. As if I needed some level of education above what I have. I prayed as I listened for my eyes to be opened. For clarity. Chapter 11 is where the whole book became plain as day light for me. By the last chapter I had become new. I was aware of the peace of God as surely as I am aware of my thumb. As I use to pray for gifts such as patience and peace, fruit of the spirit that I received the day I came to know God. Why then did I keep praying for them. It was as if I was born with my thumbs but was not aware of it. Going about using my hands without using my thumbs would make simple things difficult. So in this example praying for thumbs over and over so my day wouldn't be so challenging. Silly because I have thumbs. But what good are they if I can not feel or see them. This book made me aware of my gifts so that they are useful and I praise God for His gifts instead of asking Him for what He already gave me.
"In Depth Theology"
This audio is definitely one of those you have to take slowly and dip into every now and then.
I remember starting the print version of this years and years and ago, and having to stop because there was so much to think about. I?ve had to do the same again with this audio as its too meaty, you really have to think and digest what you?re listening to. Sometimes going back to listen again if you haven?t got it first time round!
It?s definitely value for money as it will last you a long time and its something you can come back to, time and time again.
The narration is fine as its very clear and easy to understand, not a lot of expression in it though.
If you like theology, and want a very in depth look at the New Testament book of Romans, you won?t go wrong with this audio.
