Publisher's summary

What does Jesus mean when he says, "Follow me"?

Twenty years ago, pastor-teacher and best-selling author John MacArthur tackled that seemingly simple question and wrote a book that has since taken its place among Christianity's classics. This 20th anniversary edition of MacArthurs provocative book has been revised and contains one new chapter.

A great listen

This is a great work by John MacArthur. He duvet the thought of Christianity back to its biblical roots.

Good but not great

Good but really tedious is some spots. Good explanation of the Gospel though and Jesus’s call to be Lord of your life.

Lighting the dark rooms

I loved the connecting of the dots with the parables,
and the confirmation of the truths known in my heart.

Excellent Book!!

This should be required reading for every Christian. Pastor MacArthur uses scripture to support one of the most important foundational theological beliefs…the Lordship of Christ.

John McArthur really is a stickler for details.

Very well documented book. John' presents his
case backed up by facts and deep rooted knowledge in religion.

Truth

It stings sometimes. So the scriptures say, irons sharpens iron! Prepare to be challenged by this book!

Exactly what I was needed

The "once saved, always saved" doctrine along with the "faith alone" doctrine can come off as very permissive and unrestrictive.

MacArthur magnificently explains that those doctrines are true, but everyone isn't always saved when they think they are and regular self examination is apart of your spiritual maturity.

Divine and supernatural works(works of the Holy Spirit) take place when you are truly saved.

Your heart changes, your desires change, you hunger for obedience, along with other spiritual fruit.

if you are not seeing this, maybe you haven't truly accepted that Jesus is truly God, and that you are now a living sacrifice to his lordship.

"Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a doulos(slave) and being made in the likeness of men.

Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Phil. 2:5 – 8)"

great truth about our Lord AND Savior

maybe this keeps sticking out to me since my bible study in 2 peter this year, but we say & read "Lord and Savior" all the time..., but do we really understand the truth of that phrase? does that stir up worship out of our soul? do we live it? this is a GREAT book, revised only to explain clearer and better... for our soul's sake, so we can say it to ourselves, so we can share it correctly and simply with others, and so we can cherish it as the Church Body 💜

Jesus Christ is LORD

Challenges the softly sold plea to accept Jesus as personal saviour which often omits mention of repentance or taking up the cross as a disciple daily.

excellent coverage of this topic

too often christian will think that they are saved when they have no evidence. my mom had a saying she posted on the refrigerator "if someone ever accused you of being a Latter-Day Saint (Christian) would there be enough evidence to convict you" very appreciative of your work here thank you
