    Not a medatition book

This is not a meditation book but rather a 2 hr explanation of mindfulness. In my mind anything that takes 2 hrs to explain is not necessary. I do believe the medication can work miracles. We need books on mastering meditation not definistions.

very helpful tool towards calming my mind

the slow even tone of the narrator and the content of the book was filled with helpful tools in order to lead me towards mindfulness and what it takes for me to obtain it.

    Excellent starting spot for beginners

Of course as the founder of MBSR, Kabat-Zinn understands what is known and unknown and what the experiences are of a person who is new to not only meditation but mindfulness as well. He does a good job expelling the hoodoovoodoo that many westerners feel about both topics and explaining what it is. A very high impact two hours. Well well wort the time and it is read with such passion and energy.

    Great introduction to meditation

Jkz is compelling. I wish the actual meditation practice in part two could have been longer or touched on those meditations contained in his book, wherever you go there you are.

good but 2 Short loud jarring noises at the start

I often listen to this at night. Unfortunately it begins with two very loud jarring noises right at the beginning which is upsetting to my partner when he is sleeping. You can work around this of course - if you remember.

The first noise is the standard "this is Audible" in an unnecessarily loud voice. I find this common with most of the audible books. The second noise is some kind of horn or something that goes on for a short time.
Other than that it's very peaceful and soothing

    Profound

I've listened to this every week since I downloaded it a few months ago, and find it extremely helpful in relaxation and keeping me grounded. I love the tone and cadence of it; it less like a reading and more like an impassioned conversation with a friend. He removes the religious and new-age-y connotations from meditation, and explains how awareness fits in with thoughts, senses, mind and body.
