Publisher's summary

Thanksgiving has a way of thawing the frostiest hearts in Lake Eden. But that won't be happening for newlywed Hannah Swensen Barton - not after her husband suddenly disappears....

Hannah has felt as bitter as November in Minnesota since Ross vanished without a trace and left their marriage in limbo. Still, she throws herself into a baking frenzy for the sake of pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving-themed treats while endless holiday orders pour into The Cookie Jar.

Hannah even introduces a raspberry Danish pastry to the menu, and P.K., her husband's assistant at KCOW-TV, will be one of the first to sample it. But instead of taking a bite, P.K., who is driving Ross's car and using his desk at work, is murdered. Was someone plotting against P.K. all along or did Ross dodge a deadly dose of sweet revenge?

Hannah will have to quickly sift through a cornucopia of clues and suspects to stop a killer from bringing another murder to the table....

Too much filler

Disappointing book overall. Way too much time spent on descriptions of meals, foods, etc and way too little mystery. Mystery itself was obvious as soon as the character was introduced.

Great read

It was a good read. Easy to listen to while doing something else, easy to follow.

The Hallmark Movies are Better

I never thought I’d say a movie is better than a book, but that’s the case here. The characters are more compelling in the movies and a little annoying here. Plus, the ending was lackluster. Well, both endings - the whodunnit and the cliffhanger. Also, while I see why the recipes are interspersed throughout the book, it doesn’t lend itself well to the audio version.

Please Say This Isn’t The End!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. Once I discovered it, this is the only one I’ve had to wait for. Please tell me we’re not going to be left hanging with the this ending!

Great ending

Thank you for the ending (wink--no spoiler you need to read to know what I mean!) I didn't care for that story one.

unrealistic

this is maybe the 4th book I have read in this series and the more I read the more everything seems unrealistic. First off everyone is way too agreeable. everybody thinks the same talks the same acts the same. No one has a real opinion. At one point I was like what's the point of asking advice or asking Hannah what she thinks about a cookie cake or pie when she's just going to agree and say it's fantastic. Norman's character is hilariously unrealistic. What man knows asparagus goes great with perchuto and orders hot lemonade at a restaurant? What man spends all his time doing nothing but going to work, being at a bakery with a woman he was probably too scared to commit with, and hanging with a bunch of women. Like does Norman have no men in his life? The way Hannah talked to Mike when they were at the bank. I don't know too many people who would allow someone to talk to them like that. Hannah's character is starting to get annoying. it's like sometimes she's a dumb blonde and asks like a damsel in distress then the next minute she's inspector gadget. Her sister Michelle is supposed to be in college but the author/narrator makes her sound like she's 10. Hannah's other sister Andrea's daughter Tracey sounds more mature than Michelle. The book is childiah. When people treat Hannah how she acts, helpless, she gets mad. Like how they describe their excitement about going to the corner tavern sounds like a 5 year old describing it. Norman has no back bone. He just agreed with everything Hannah says. this will probably be the last book from this series I'll read for a while. Maybe my coworker's 8 year old daughter will like this book

Make sure you have paper and pen before reading.

The receipts sounded good. This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I’m assuming there are previous book that gives a little more backstory for these people. It’s a loose murder mystery. I got so bogged down with the receipts I didn’t really invest in the characters. It’s not much of a story and the ending was flat. I probably won’t read another by her. This was on sale so I tried it. I was expecting more of British-type mystery so I was a lot disappointed. The narrator was good. I think I was generous with the stars. She aught to write cook books. I’m

Good recipes poor story

While the recipes might be worth trying, this storyline was really weak. It took a long time to get the story going and I never connected.
