This exciting audio drama is based on an immensely popular podcast that has received hundreds of positive reviews and has had over four million downloads - and counting.
For Army Reserve soldier Michael Cross, the world as he knows it ends in an instant. One minute he’s in college, and the next rioters are roaming the highway around him, breaking into cars and literally tearing people apart. This is the day the dead walk. This is the world of We’re Alive.
The first season features 12 chapters packing performances and sound effects that rival movies and prove that modern audio drama is undead and well. Join our survivors as they band together, struggle to fortify a safe haven known as the Tower, and discover that zombies are far from the worst thing in a post apocalyptic Los Angeles, where the rules of human decency no longer apply.
Little food. Little water. Little hope. Who is lucky enough to say "We're Alive"?

“We’re Alive is a modern rendition of an old-school medium. Maintaining a style that is both retro and contemporary, the radio drama will give horror fans the campy, kitschy style they like, but it also provides a variety of characters and development to keep general audiences engaged…Despite not being able to see the action, the excitement and intensity is still sustained through score and sound design. In some ways, the lack of visuals to accompany the audio creates more suspense. The narrator controls how much the audience knows, slowly teasing out information. Accompanying the drama are sparse moments of comedic relief…Expressing a keen awareness of the zombie subgenre, many of the jokes come from familiar scenarios and tropes of zombie stories.” (Examiner.com)
I enjoyed it for the most part. The writing is a bit lame sometimes but overall I enjoyed it.
Yea, I liked having different readers do the various parts. My biggest complaint is when that Mexican guy starts crying it sounds so annoying I can hardly listen. What a horrible sound...
That guy's crying fit really does make me hate that character.
This is more of a poorly written screen play the a book.
Omg.... Acting sounded like a first table read. Events were unrealistic and writing was bad
The general story is good enough to hold your interest
Unique audio drama
Michael because he's the leader and full of flaws yet keeps giving it his all
Sal because he's a bad a$$
The audio drama recording is unique - many different voices you recognize along with special effects/sounds. Plus, story line is great.
A great story - one of the best zombie series. If you like DBD Armageddon, The Road, The Passage, The Strain...etc then you'll definitely like this audio story!
MOST DEFINITELY. . ..EXCEPT I HAVENT READ THE PRINT VERSION, BUT THE AUDIO PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP CHARACTER IDENTITY BY VOICE, ACCENTS, (IE RILEY AND DATU)!
I LISTENED TO ALL THREE (AND IMPATIENTLY WAITING FOR SERIES 4) BUT THE MOST MEMORABLE IS DATU'S CAPTURE IN THE STADIUM AND THE DEATH OF SAMANTHA. SHE PLAYS SUCH A SHORT ROLE, BUT IMMEDIATELY SHE CAPTURES THE SPIRIT OF THE WHOLE BOOK!
THIS IS THE FIRST AND THIS ONE INSPIRED ME TO PURCHASE MORE DRAMATIZED!
DON'T KNOW BUT SOMETHING ABOUT SAUL!!!!
SAUL IS STUBBORN, DOESN'T LISTEN, HEAD STRONG, YET HE IS A SUPER SOLDIER! I TOO SERVED OVERSEAS AND LOVE HIS CHARACTER! NOW ON THE BATTLEFIELD WITH A SOLDIER LIKE THAT I WOULD PROBABLY PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE, BUT HE GETS THE JOB DONE AND DOES NOT OVERTHINK IT! SKILLzzz!
Tell me a story :)
I found this gem in the surprise $4.95 Sale. Best money I've ever spent on Audible by far. After the first hour of listening to this book, I was hooked I couldn't put my iPod down. Season two and three are just as fun --Full of zombie gore, drama and of course the AWESOME sound effects. I cannot say enough good things about this book.
If you enjoy a good zombie book, this is definitely for you.
Screamed or jumped more than once.
Really worth the credit, bet you buy the whole series.
Well.......the story was pretty good.....actually, that was pretty much the only thing that was ok about this book. I've read a LOT of zombie books, and none of them had me rolling my eyes as much as this one. Talk about Drama! Man! The personality of the main characters Michael and Angel are FULL of drama. These guys are constantly snapping at each other and other people as they are trying to get things done. They should be working with their people to understand their strengths and utilized those strengths to maximize their survival. All too often they get too dramatic about one thing or another.......sheesh....Amateur hour throughout the entire book....
I would have to Say that Burt, who was an older retired Marine, and was full of spit fire was my favorite character. He had his head on straight, but Angel, Michael and others were so full of themselves they couldn't listen to him.....nearly cost them everything.
I don't know. The sound effects were ok, but w-a-y too often the voices were too soft or too darned loud. Ya know, there is software that will bring it all to a nice medium...... I found myself rewinding the book several times and having to turn up the volume to hear what somebody said, then turning it back down to hear what the next person was saying..... too inconsistent.
NO, God no, please no more...... I couldn't take Skittles running off with Sal's socks....I just know that character would find his way back into the the second book.....
I rarely write reviews unless the book is really good. This one is one of those times, it is unlike any other audiobook I listened to and I listen to usually 2-3 a week.
I won't blow the plot or give any details of the story, just the way it was presented. It's basically a movie minus the picture. Each character is preformed by a different person and there's sound effects and music, I've listened to others with sound effects and didn't like it but this one works well. Give it a try, well worth the credit or cash. I got it by chance as a surprise sale on audible and only chose it because it was cheap and sounded the best out of the available titles, I'm glad I did. There's also 2 more in this series so ill listen to those as well.
Let me say that I’m not a fan of zombie-anything. I feel that this sub genre of post apocalyptic stories is overdone and there are only a handful of good ones out there. “We’re Alive” is one of the great ones
The story starts off pretty basic for a zombie story. The dead have risen and are reeking havoc. It’s only until we are introduced to two of my favorite characters: Saul and Michael that the story becomes interesting. That’s within the first couple episodes as well. I enjoy Saul, because he is just a good person. I like Michael because he’s smart. Screw it, all the characters are awesome, and that’s what makes a good zombie story (or any story for that matter). In a good zombie apocalypse story, the drama comes from the characters. The subtitle of the series: “A Story of Survival” is aptly named, because the zombies are just a backdrop. They may become important later, but as of the season 1 finale, I could really care less about the fact that there are zombies.
Most of the characters are likable, but they are by no means perfect. An excellent example is Michael. He serves as a sort of mentor figure for the people of the apartment complex. However, he also yells at people for a simple mistake. Granted any mistake could cost people their lives in such a scenario, but the way the actor played the character made it sound like the person who caused the accident did it on purpose. For me personally I hate people who do that. On the other hand, Michael is one of my favorite characters. His character flaw is what makes him more rounded and realistic as a person.
This was a very cool change from the usual books I've listened to on audible. I like the added music, affects noises and multiple actors for the different characters. I will definately get the second season when it becomes available.
Now I will say this, this isn't the best zombie story I have read/heard. I am not someone on the edge of my seat waiting for the movie to be made. However,I would recommend this to listeners of fiction and zombie fiction alike. I was entertained and you can't ask for much more than that.
