Reese

Cooper Reeves was the boy-next-door. Every milestone, every memory of my youth was entangled with his.

We were inseparable...until college.

It wasn't his friends, girls, or even sports that came between us - it was me.

Tired of being in the friend zone, I finally made a move. Turns out it was the wrong one.

Cooper walked away to play his first year of professional football and left me behind with a broken heart.

Cooper

It's always been her. Even before I really knew what love was, Reese Latham was by my side, making me swear we'd be best friends forever.

And we were...until one night changed everything. I knew how she felt because I felt it, too, but I pushed her away to save our friendship.

The longer we're apart, the more I realize she's not only my best friend, Reese is the love of my life.

I was kidding myself thinking I could let her go because now I know that living without her is the worst kind of agony.

Agony is waiting for Kaylee’s books!!💕

I love Kaylee’s books. She is a repeat author in my collection of my ten favorite books (out of the thousands on my kindle!) I check her website weekly for news of upcoming releases... so this gives you some perspective on my admiration of her work.
That being said, I am so incredibly disappointed with the male narrator. He’s alright...good voice, no annoying nuances, age appropriate BUT he sounds like an eighth grade boy reading a book report in front of the class. He’s trying to read it with appropriate emotion and animation but it’s rushed and any emotion gets squashed by speed. I slowed it to 0.9x which helped (0.8x made him sound drunk which was a no-go lol). Part of the beauty of Kaylee’s writing is the soulful, heart touching feelings of the characters. In order for that to come across, the narrators have to feel it and let it come through in their voices and cadence. Parker tries but he needs more experience in order to let the emotional scenes touch his heart and filter out through his mouth. (Zachary Weber, Jacob Morgan and Joe Arden are really good at the emotional stuff)
Melissa does a good job with her narration but she’s also at 0.9x and she sounds good so maybe she could slow down a bit also in order for the listener to be able to get the feels of the scene.
Don’t get me wrong...the narration is good enough for me to recommend this book. I’d say so if it wasn’t. It would break my heart but I’d do it.
I’m just getting started on the second book. I’m really enjoying the story. Kaylee’s books really make my heart so happy. If you want a good book that will leave you with a happy sigh, Kaylee is your girl. She’s wonderful.

4 Solid Stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

4 stars for a really good book with nicely done narration. One can tell from the title alone that it’s going to be a rough ride, and that it is. It’s hard to listen to hours of a book detailing the relationship of two best friends who are secretly (or not so secretly to others) in deep love with one another...especially (mild spoiler alert) when they don’t get together by the end of this book and one of the main characters is moving on with someone else. Yep, pure AGONY! But there is good news...the story’s not over and the next installment is available so you don’t have to fret too much over the cliffhanger. You can just dive right in and devour the next book concluding the series! I also just love the main characters as well as the supporting characters in this book....I love the devotion the main characters have to one another...the chemistry...the protectiveness in the male lead for his bestie. However, sometimes you’ll want to ring their necks and scream, “wake up!!!” Even so, Kaylee Ryan did a beautiful job bringing this story to life. I was entertained and fully-involved throughout. Rooting for Cooper and Reese and can’t wait to finish this duet. Worth a credit imo. Happy reading!
