Publisher's summary

The third book in the Carly Moore series by Denise Grover Swank.

The dead can’t speak.

After months of living in the Smoky Mountains town of Drum, Tennessee, Carly knows firsthand the financial hardship the citizens face. Still, she can’t muster the same excitement as everyone else when town patriarch Bart Drummond breaks ground on his new resort that promises more jobs and money.

But the project comes to a screeching halt when the construction crew unearths a grisly discovery — an unmarked grave. The discovery threatens Carly’s ex-boyfriend when the authorities learn the body belongs to his old girlfriend who had supposedly left town…and Wyatt is suspect number one.

Carly’s sure Wyatt’s innocent, even if the rest of the town, and more importantly, the sheriff’s department, is ready to lock him up. Carly has moved on from Wyatt, but now he’s asking for her help to clear his name. In exchange, he’ll tell her what he knows about his father. Information that will help her bring Bart down.

But danger lurks around every corner, and as Carly puts her life on the line to help the man who betrayed her, she begins to question everything and everyone around her…especially Wyatt Drummond.

Another Great Carly Story

In the ongoing storyline of Carly trying to figure out what's going on in Drummond. she manages to keep getting in tight situations. Denise Grover Swanks is a fantastic writer and I can't wait for the next book. Shannon McManus always does a wonderful narration.

Good storyline

While I would have liked some more development in the main background Story, I was very happy with the mystery covered and uncovered in this book. Many questions I had since book one have been answered and leave me ready to dive into book two.

Danger, excitement and mystery

This installment of Carly Moore working as a waitress/part time detective’s complicated messy life once again packed an emotional punch. I was feeling all the feels with Carly on this one. This book picks up a number of uneventful months following the end of the last book. Carly is hiding from her dangerous and powerful father and ex-fiancée and a dead car resulted in her ending up in small town disconnected from the rest of the world Drum. She is working as a waitress in the local bar, living with and taking care of Hank, and has become best friends with Marco, a deputy sheriff. When the skeleton of Heather is found buried at a construction site, Wyatt, the local mechanic who Carly briefly dated is suspected. Despite Wyatt’s secrecy causing their break up, Carly nevertheless agrees to try to investigate who else might have killed Heather. As usual, things get messy and complicated quickly as she and Marco pull threads in the mystery. Drum is a hot bed of gossip, lies, dirty deals, deception, and powerful men. The book was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, exciting action, danger, family drama, painful pasts, mystery, plot twists, imperfect characters, secrets, missteps, and laughs. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. 4.5 stars.

Shannon McManus did a great job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

Easy Listening- But Far Fetched.

The main character gets more unlikeable each book. I enjoy the story, and other characters, but Carly annoys me. Every little thing sets her off, and she is instantly offended by the slightest thing. It is also ridiculous that the town has just accepted her as a private investigator even though they don’t know her, and she has absolutely no background or credentials in it.
