Fantastic!!

I found these lectures very informative as well as meditative! Sometimes while I listened I took notes... other times I danced. I shared the author's ideas with friends and family. She definately had an effect on me! I was somewhat familiar with Carl Jung's archetypes before listening to these CDs, so this all wasn't completely new material... it's just that the way the author presents her ideas is so practical, it really helped me to understand myself and everyone around me with more compassion and awareness. I also laughed more than a few times. Ms. Myss has such a matter-of-fact way of stating things... I couldn't help but laugh at some of my own deep-set belief patterns.

Overall, I was very impressed.

Captivated from the first click

This book is a wonderful introduction to and expansion of the concepts of archetypes and how they apply to our everyday existence. I have been looking for a title that would help me gain a modern day view of Jungian psychology. Caroline Myss is interesting to listen to and very informative. She concretely explains the 'language' in such a way that the casual listener can understand while at the same time offering the budding expert enough to whet the palate. She is truly a master teacher!

This is not a book, it is a seminar that was taped. I really enjoyed the content and subject. It is not as structured as a book, but I think it is a great listen!

Caroline is wonderful we want more people like her! He direct manner of speaking to her class or in her workshop is just amazing!

Not a story, per se. Very insightful.

This is a great overview of a range of archetypes. Carolyn Myss is an engaging speaker. She sprinkles in numerous stories and personal connections throughout the series that highlight and clarify the various archetypes she considers. Interesting and insightful, a great "listen."

Yes. I will listen to this one several times. There is a lot of ground covered.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Language of Archetypes?

I really respect her insights on purpose. I don't have grounds to accept them, but I am happily lit to dig deeper! On the flip side... she comes across as one who thinks she knows everything, without properly expounding on source or reasoning.

Which scene was your favorite?

I really liked the parts about the archetypes that struck a cord for me, I am sure it would be irrelevant to anyone else. I like the call to continue being whatever we confirm ourselves to be rather than altering who we are, whether in the name of ego or misguided advancement.

This book/talk cannot stand on it's own. I could have used a meaty intro. She jumps directly into archetypal figures with little concept of their application, substance, or personal acquisition of knowledge. That being said, for all of the above reasons, I still found it an insightful and inspiring.

I really enjoyed listening to this book, it revealed new aspects of myself and the world which I can work with now to deepen my practise and my life. I highly recommend this book and all of Caroline Myss' work! Enjoy.

Tough medicine to swallow, but medicine nonetheless

I was recommended this book by my therapist as I found myself caught in an almost year-long cycle of pain. After so many therapists and so many different approaches, the therapist with whom I found change was the person who compelled me to treat my Archetypes instead of myself. For me, Myss’ pragmatic presentation was cold comfort, but that same primarily objective approach also allowed me to take non-judgmental space with the Archetypes that are real in my life, without bringing in her take or society’s take on the good or bad of the archetype. If it is time for you to listen to these sessions, heed the call because, just like gravity, ignorance of how archetypes work in your life doesn’t save you from the effects of their work; just like gravity, archetypes are operating on us all the time. I am grateful for this book.

Be Aware That This is a Live Speech...

If you like Myss' works, this will not disappoint as it contains great in-depth explorations of the relationship between various aspects of our personalities and the traditional Archetypes that she covers, but be aware this is a live speech rather than an actual reading of a book, which can be fun as there is some audience feedback and interaction, but can also be frustrating as there are times Myss starts to talk about a particular situation or Archetype, but then gets distracted and wanders off elsewhere. If you want a more structured discussion about archetypes, consider reading her "Sacred Contracts" book.

In terms of performance, I have to confess that the more Myss ages, the more unpleasant I find her voice and mannerisms. The early audios weren't bad, but listening to her here made me want to stab myself in the eye with a pencil. I just had to stop at one point and haven't listened any further. Make sure you listen to the sample first to see if you can handle her voice before you purchase.
