In this national best-seller, Robert Bly explores the idea of the missing father in contemporary society. He draws upon a cornucopia of legend and literature - as varied as the poetry of William Blake, Jungian psychology, and Sioux initiation rituals - to encourage men in their pursuit of the “inner warrior.”

The smearing of Robert Bly by the women"s movement just showed how un-read these people were at the time. Men who desire to find out what is going on in their lives, (and the women who love them), and why many are so dis-satisfied with the way things are, can profit handsomely from this book. It is an excellent gift, hard won by Bly's years of research and experiences of working in men's groups. Of benefit to every Western male I know. This is not a once over book however. No problem; the serious reader will find themselves wanting to go back, again as they see themselves perhaps for the first time. Like the unlocking of an important puzzle.

I THINK ROBERT BLY IS IN CONTACT WITH YOUR INNER MAN(AND WOMAN).
When it comes those those truths tht u cn identify with as a man you think oh what a book. Bt as he talks about other shite u are what is he babbling about!
So few books contain this level of insight. And our culture psychologically and spiritually crippled we are so dearly in need of this kind of wisdom. Robert Bly now 86 years old. I don't know anyone with his energy and his fire. Who are his kids or his students who are his disciples? The narration is also superb beautifully read with an insight and a pointedness in the Voice.
This is a Traditional story that is told AND decoded by the great Robert Bly. Without his interpretation of this story, it would be just another Disney production. Robert Bly breaks down this story as stages of initiation that cannot be neglected or passed over in order to live a complete and whole life as a man. What do i love best about it? How the story came ALIVE in me.
My favorite character was the Boy, and his evoloving relationship with the Wild Man.
i heard the one narrated by Robert Bly. i guess i'll have to listen again to Richard's version. i hope it doesn't suck.
