Publisher's summary

Ashton is a typical small town where everyone knows everyone else and the pace of life is predictable. No one would suspect that Ashton has drawn powerful demonic beings to it. Planning to gain control of the town - and eventually the world - these evil forces are looking for allies. When Pastor Young and the town's newspaper reporter begin to discover this dark plan, they turn to God for guidance, but others have already succumbed to temptation. As angelic forces rally against the demons, breathtaking visions of spiritual warfare fill each fast-paced chapter.

Richard Ferrone's dramatic narration highlights these powerful illustrations of the strength of prayer and faith. There are more than two million copies of This Present Darkness in print.

Popped up as recommended Steven King fan, but…

Definitely not a horror book. It’s beautifully written and a good story - but should be classified as religious fiction. While I enjoyed the book a lot, if you happen upon this title looking for horror/sci fi/ Stephen King-esque type of story, this book is not that. The author does mirror king as far as his writing style - detailed, absorbing, descriptive with a flair for character immersion, but that’s where similarities end. Worth the read, but felt the genre listed needs to be changed!

the invisible is now visible

I very much enjoyed everything about this book. the flow of the story is steady. it really drives home what happens when you pray. as a person from a small town I can almost pick out these characters. the descriptions of the angels and demons making things happen and fighting over souls is just what I needed in my mind to keep as a reminder.

eye opener!!!

it's amazing this book was written in that 80's as fiction and it is exactly what has happened to our government school system.
