Publisher's summary

Now published in the United States for the first time - an early novel from the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Giver of Stars.

Isabel Delancey, a classical violinist, has always taken her comfortable life for granted. But when her husband dies suddenly, leaving her with a mountain of debt, she and her two children are forced to abandon their home and move to the Spanish House, a now-dilapidated manor Isabel inherited in the English countryside.

With the house falling down around them, and the last of her savings disappearing fast, Isabel turns to her neighbors for help, not knowing that her mere presence there has stirred up long-standing obsessions.

As she fights to make her house a home, passions and lives collide. Isabel will discover an instinct for survival she never knew she had - and that a heart can play a new song....

Need to pay attention when the story switches POV

Very interesting ensemble cast of characters. Could not guess where the story would go next, unique and worth it!!

Worth the credit

Couldn't quit listening. A little disappointed with the ending. It seemed almost unbelievable, and Matt's character seemed exaggerated.

Great writing once again

Great character development! Story was very well told and the conclusion is perfectly done. This was my second Jojo Moyes book. After The Giver of Stars I didn’t know if that story could be topped. I loved this book.

Another great story by jojo

It’s got it all- lovely quirky characters, problems and triumphs, love and a teeny bit of intrigue. This audiobook did not disappoint.

Meh —

A so-so performance by Moyes. Not nearly as engaging as her other projects. It takes an usually long time to be taken in by the story. If this is your first Moyes attempt, start with one of her other works. This ended up being a loyalty pick, for me.

Not as good as Giver of Stars

Hard to pin down the time period…not until half way through did we have a character on a cell phone (unless I wasn’t listening carefully), so it felt like a huge time warp when suddenly there was reference to cell phone and computer games. Also not as believable of a story as I’d like, partly due to the ending. the ending was really disappointing. Partial SPOILER: the antagonist’s choices were written off / excused as a mental breakdown. And the love story & chance at hope and redemption is shrouded in a secret.
