Publisher's summary

From David Baldacci - the modern master of the thriller and number-one worldwide best-selling novelist - comes a new hero: a lone Army Special Agent taking on the toughest crimes facing the nation. And Zero Day is where it all begins....

John Puller is a combat veteran and the best military investigator in the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigative Division. His father was an Army fighting legend, and his brother is serving a life sentence for treason in a federal military prison. Puller has an indomitable spirit and an unstoppable drive to find the truth.

Now, Puller is called out on a case in a remote, rural area in West Virginia coal country, far from any military outpost. Someone has stumbled onto a brutal crime scene, a family slaughtered. The local homicide detective, a headstrong woman with personal demons of her own, joins forces with Puller in the investigation. As Puller digs through deception after deception, he realizes that absolutely nothing he's seen in this small town, and no one in it, are what they seem. Facing a potential conspiracy that reaches far beyond the hills of West Virginia, he is one man on the hunt for justice against an overwhelming force.

David Baldacci is one of the world's favorite storytellers. His books are published in over 45 languages and in more than 80 countries, with over 110 million copies in print. He is also the cofounder, along with his wife, of the Wish You Well Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting literacy efforts across America. Still a resident of his native Virginia, he invites you to visit him at www.DavidBaldacci.com and his foundation at www.WishYouWellFoundation.org, and to look into its program to spread books across America at www.FeedingBodyandMind.com.

EPIC

Classic Baldacci! Nobody does character and plot quite like him. Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy are some of my favorite narrators. They were absolutely flawless.

Baldacci never disappoints, but . . .

Zero Day delivers everything I have come to expect from Baldacci: a thought-provoking story with enough suspense to keep me listening to the very end. The characters are well developed with only a couple of lapses into stereotypes for minor characters. Ron McLarty is an excellent narrator. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Orlagh Cassidy. Baldacci describes the voice of Sam Cole, the female lead, as "husky" and "attractive." This conjured an auditory image of Lauren Bacall. Instead, Cassidy offers a fingernails- on-chalkboard screech that set my teeth on edge. I thought this might just be her idea of a West Virginia accent, but she used the same voice for the D.C. general and the forensic expert. It came close to ruining the whole listening experience for me. I will continue to listen to Baldacci, but nothing with Orlagh Cassidy narrating.

Action Packed

I love Baldacci and I certainly wasn't disappointed with this story line. I had to tell myself to turn my ipod off so I could get some work done! Puller is an exciting character.

Great listen

What made the experience of listening to Zero Day the most enjoyable?

As always David Baldacci has written a book that keeps you listening. After listening to the entire Oliver Stone series I hope that we are in for a John Puller series.

Have you listened to any of Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

McLarty and Cassidy are some of the best narrators I have listened to and I look for them in other authors as well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I wish I had been able to listen all in one sitting, however baking cookies with friends I had to

Diamond in the Rough

After reading the reviews, I approached this title with some healthy skepticism.

The character is unique, I'll start with that, John Puller is an Army investigator, Still in the Army. He carries a lot of cool equipment with him. He is not someone to trifle with.

I found the story engaging and the characters beleivable. There was even one character with a name so close to mine I nearly swerved into another lane when he was introduced.

To me, this character is still being formed in the authors mind, but has amazing potential for great adventures. I also got the feeling that the author did not want the story to end where it did. I'm glad to see there is a second book and that will be my next purchase.
