"Nothing short of dazzling." (Publishers Weekly)
"Another winner from this popular writer." (AudioFile)
I am an artist, lover of books. Love reading or listening to a good book. I live on the East Coast of Canada with an awesome ocean view.
As with many Francis novels it would rank above average. Keeps you thinking.
Kept you thinking,, kept my interest wondering what would come next.
yes probably dick francis books are rereadable and are a good listening book
the racing scene seem to hold a lot of corruption and secrets the books incline
yes he seems to have a knowledge of the racing and jockey life
not much he seems to bring the book together
"Another gem from Dick Francis"
As with most of his novels, Dick Francis chooses a subsidiary theme in addition to that of horse racing. In this case, he chooses two: film making, and knives. Both are extraordinary - gripping and full of inside knowledge.
As usual, the central character is honest and likeable. He goes out of his way to care for the vulnerable, even though his own life is in the balance.
Dick Francis's love for, and special relationship with horses is evident as usual. His description of the filming of the wild horses at dawn is beautiful, and very moving. All in all, this is a really smashing book. Highly recommended!
As always Dick Francis writes a gripping thriller. I found it very difficult to stop listening to this as the tension built up. Tony Britton has the perfect voice to listen to and manages to change his voice for each character which adds to the enjoyment of the story.
I didn't want to stop listening and couldn't work out who was guilty until near the end.
Ingenious, cleverly developed storyline typically Frances. As always superbly read by Tony Britton. Highly recommended
"Slow starting but worth the persistence"
A bit slow to get going but excellently narrated, healthy dose of all things horsey, consistent character development, and a strong finish. Another enjoyable book by Dick Francis.
"Very exciting "
Dick Francis at his best. As usual racing is combined with another world this time film making.
"An unusual dick Francis novel"
This book shows how a mystery can twist & turn nearly to the end. It demonstrates how a film does not always become an accurate portrayal of the novel.
An excellent listen with expressive reading of the book.
I could listen to Tony Britton forever. everything comes alive under his narration. Other narrators should take lessons
"One of, if not the best!"
Excellent book read with drama. I enjoyed every minute of it, wanting to know the ending but not wanting it to finish!
