The best mystery book I have listened to in a long while.

I love this narrator and will look for him in the future. This mystery holds water through and through. I recommend with out a hesitation. Enjoy

Well written and one of his best

Be aware that in his many years as a winning jockey, Mr Francis became deeply cognizant of the vulnerabilities of the human body to injury and to pain.

There is a section in LONGSHOT which a sensitive reader will likely wish to skip when it occurs during the (excellent) narration. Well, you cannot. Although this particular section does seem to go on rather longer and more painfully than you wish — that is the point. The reader must “be” in this world of intense discomfort — or, just stick to reading Agatha Christie. (And I dearly love A Christie.).

And horses. If you could care less about horses, or fell or were thrown off a horse or pony as a child, or for some atavistic reason fear them, seek murder mystery reading elsewhere. Equus IS Dick Francis.

The innocent, the murderous, the cunning and the wise who race, literally, through his plots and stories. Never a dull moment!

My favorite of all Dick Francis mysteries

Outstanding. With excellent narration. The carefully crafted cast of characters and the intricate mystery make this a most entertaining book.

Entertaining story but questionable finish

Unfortunately the ending is weak in that the policeman would never have given up when the proof was so near at hand.

The ending.

The ending. DF’s protagonist has found a family of sorts and new broadened horizons and yet he throws it away under the belief that his revealing the killer would destroy them. I love Francis, do wish he had broken through his prejudices about women characters even with his wife doing all the research and writing he did not. No outright misogyny but even true partners don’t exist. This was not known until it was “leaked” to the literary press late in his writing career. He was a creature of his times. But his writing is superb.

All DF’s books do end suddenly and the abrupt nature of most endings leave the reader surprised but armed with the knowledge of how story ends and the characters futures.

I am grateful that Audible has released all his books. Not a fan of Felix but highly recommend these books.

Tony Briton and Simon Prebble are the best voices of these books.

I enjoyed the plot, characters and narration! As a horse lover, I always enjoy the horses in the story too.

First person story

Liked the narration was in first person so the characters could be kept straight. Details on survival was educational.

Penetrating

Francis stays on the margins of racing in this one, but places his character dead center in the middle of a slightly strange and intriguing family, where the heroes role is to save
