Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Michael Robotham brings us face-to-face with a manipulative psychopath who has destroyed countless lives and is about to claim one final victim.

Marnie Logan often feels like she's being watched: A warm breath on the back of her neck, or a shadow in the corner of her eye that vanishes when she turns her head.

She has reason to be frightened. Her husband Daniel has inexplicably vanished, and the police have no leads in the case. Without proof of death or evidence of foul play, she can't access his bank accounts or his life insurance. Depressed and increasingly desperate, she seeks the help of clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin.

O'Loughlin is concerned by Marnie's reluctance to talk about the past and anxious to uncover what Marnie is withholding that could help with her treatment. The breakthrough in Marnie's therapy and Daniel's disappearance arrives when Marnie shares with O'Loughlin her discovery of the Big Red Book, a collage of pictures, interviews, and anecdotes from Marnie's friends and relatives that Daniel had been compiling as part of a surprise birthday gift.

Daniel's explorations into Marnie's past led him to a shocking revelation on the eve of his disappearance: Anyone who has ever gotten close to Marnie has paid an exacting price. A cold-blooded killer is eliminating the people in Marnie's life, and now that O'Laughlin is a part of it, he is next in line.

Suspenseful, surprising, couldn't stop listening

A spine tingling story with surprising twists and turns. Kept me awake during nightime commutes.

Wow!!! I’m hooked on Robotham! What’s next?

I think that now I’ve listened to all of Michael Robotham’s books except one! I’m hooked on his style, character development and the twists and turns that they hold. They’re thoughtful and well-written and each one has a great narrator that captures the characters well, especially this one! I wish I could find another similar author now that I’ve run out of books to listen to by him! You should must definitely read and buy this psychological thriller!

Chilling, Suspenseful, Well Done!

When trying out a new author, there is always a risk of wasting time and credits, and getting very annoyed. Not with this one!

It was an enjoyable listen from the beginning--the narrator has a great voice and really brings on the creepiness when needed. About 3/4 of the way through, I was pretty proud of myself for figuring out who the killer was, and how it all tied together. I put the iPod down and left if for a few hours thinking "well I've solved this one"

NOT EVEN CLOSE!

If you are looking for a good mystery that keeps you guessing until the end-this is it. I now will try other books by this author, and hope they are just as well written as this one.

Take Care and Don't Mess With Marnie!

It didn't take long for me to become totally immersed in this mystery. And what a mystery it is! About half way into the book, a light bulb went on and I thought I had it figured out. How wrong I was, as there are twists and turns that are totally unexpected. This is a really good story that keeps you holding your breath til the end.

Sean Barrett's narration was amazing. It was truly a performance that I will long remember and it added greatly to the enjoyability of the story. Barrett did all the characters so well and had such a variety of voices and accents. His interpretation of one particular character certainly added immensely to the creepiness factor which made the experience such fun for me.

Collateral characters, while not as well described and developed, were also believable and interesting. This is a series and I think Watching You is the last one that was released. While it was a stand alone story, I imagine you might feel more at home with having previous experience with Joe O'Loughlin, the criminal psychologist. Still, despite entering the series in this later book, I found it thoroughly enjoyable and I highly recommend it.

(I have not described the story as Audible gives a good summary, certainly enough for you to decide if the plot interests you.)

A wonderful discovery; great writing

What made the experience of listening to Watching You the most enjoyable?

I discovered this writer through reading the reviews of an Audible listener. Michael Robotham is an excellent writer. I really enjoyed listening to the rhythm of his words. The plot was tight, without gaps; he managed to make some of the more unusual aspects of the plot believable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really liked the psychologist who appears in the series. The character radiates humanity. Joe is a very well conceived character.

Which scene was your favorite?

One of the last scenes in the book, when Marnie reads a statement in the courtroom, was very satisfying. I felt her "vindication".

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I tried but life interfered.

Any additional comments?

If you enjoy a tightly weaved, thrilling detective story with well developed characters and plenty of twists and turns, this is the book for you. The characters are very original. The writing is way above average in quality. I believe this is the second book in the series...I am going to read the first next and take it from there. I wish I would have discovered Robotham sooner.

Great Story! (Mostly)

I enjoy this series because the characters are well developed & likable, and the plots are interesting. The Dissociative Disorder in O'Laughlin's client added to the intrigue. However, if you want believability, psychologists do not and would not go around telling others who they are treating. In this book O'Loughlin tells multiple people that he is treating Marnie Logan. Even so, I still enjoyed the book.

Excellent, unpredictable

Superb narration. Great storyline and characters, good twists. Didn't know where it was headed. Not just a thriller, but very good writing as well.

Yet another female kidnapped!

Great narration, but the female victim/stalker/kidnapper theme in this series is a bit too repetitive. The attempt at a twist in the tale is way too predictable. That said, still worth a listen.

The best Robotham novel

I've tried others by Michael Robotham but they were weak by comparison. This one is the best. What a fantastic narrator for such a creepy story. Really kept me interested. I only wish other Robotham books were as good.

this author can write a great story

This series is outstanding. there has been only one story that was a little slow for me. even then, the story warmed to a nice pitch. if this series is an indicator of his skill, this author has a fan in me.
