Publisher's summary

After his wife, Helen, is brazenly abducted before his eyes, Special Agent Pendergast furiously pursues the kidnappers, chasing them across the country and into Mexico. But then, things go terribly, tragically wrong; the kidnappers escape; and a shattered Pendergast retreats to his New York apartment and shuts out the world.

But when a string of bizarre murders erupts across several Manhattan hotels - perpetrated by a boy who seems to have an almost psychic ability to elude capture - NYPD Lieutenant D'Agosta asks his friend Pendergast for help. Reluctant at first, Pendergast soon discovers that the killings are a message from his wife's kidnappers. But why a message? And what does it mean?

When the kidnappers strike again at those closest to Pendergast, the FBI agent, filled anew with vengeful fury, sets out to track down and destroy those responsible. His journey takes him deep into the trackless forests of South America, where he ultimately finds himself face to face with an old evil that - rather than having been eradicated - is stirring anew... and with potentially world-altering consequences.

Confucius once said: "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves." Pendergast is about to learn the hard way just how true those words still ring.

Good but not great story

If you could sum up Two Graves in three words, what would they be?

Same old story

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really, to be honest the story was a little lacking in some areas, then it split into three different stories. To make matters worse there are times where the book just skips time to come to another portion of the story with little to no transition.

What does Rene Auberjonois bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love how he enunciates the words, his different language skills are very helpful in this book

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really, the story line is the same as all of the other books... A cop , a reporter (thank god there was none in this book, an FBI agent and some weird things happening. Pendergast does his stuff no regards to other people screws over his friends career... blah blah. Rinse and repeat.

Two Graves

As usual, another winner in this series. There is so much adventure and mystery in each book, they should charge for two. I am hooked on this series even coming in near the end. I love the narrator, the characters and crazy rides it takes me on, all over the world.

Best of the three

Where does Two Graves rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very exciting book, never a dull moment. Rene Auberjonois is as always great. Was little upset with how book 2 ended but book 3 was well worth the wait. Many loose ends were tied up and one left dangling, probably the best loose end. Oh, yes, oh yes. I see another book in the offing. Would recommend this book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, it did. I true roller coaster ride...don't really want to reveal more then that, since I don't want to spoil the book for anyone. All I will say, I couldn't stop listening, it was so exciting.

A CHANGE IN NARRATORS - NOW!!??

Loved the story, love the narrator and love the authors. What were they thinking when changing narrators in a series. I felt I was reading about all new characters. Not as enjoyable as I was straining to reconnect to history.

Did not disappoint

Where does Two Graves rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was good, and exactly what I expect from a Pendergast novel. But probably ranks close to the middle in terms of all-time favorite listens.

What did you like best about this story?

Pendergast finally becomes human. We see him struggle with death, even to the point of despair. At last the reader has a mode in which they feel connected to Pendergast as a fellow human. He goes through each level of grief, even taking out his revenge before finally assuming his role again as the calm, cool, collected, austere, and intelligent Pendergast we've come to love.

Which scene was your favorite?

Pendergast creating in his mind a conversation with his wife to reveal one of the books secrets.

Any additional comments?

This book was worth the wait. There was effort and thought placed into the storyline. However, the Nazi angle does detract a bit for me. But as readers, that angle has been prevalent in several of the previous books. So it wasn't a surprise.

Intense and Thrilling

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes & Yes, just when you think the last book was over the top, but now comes this one. They are the best writing team I've read!! I suggest getting the whole series, I've been giving the series as Xmas gifts in books. Everyone raves, marvels and are hooked to the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Two Graves?

When Pendergast's son appeared at the Dakota!

What about Rene Auberjonois’s performance did you like?

Everything!!!!!! His audio trumps his TV performances hands down. We love his voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Pendergast's love and caring for his unknown son.

Any additional comments?

Where can they possibly go from here?

Heartbreaking!!

What did you love best about Two Graves?

I love that the authors were able to bring back the past in a way that just wasn't completely absurd. The storyline was suspenseful and exciting and heartbreaking.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Two Graves?

No spoilers, but Pendergast's emotions throughout the book helped me remember that he was a human being with actual feelings, and not just an FBI robot.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator just has such a distinct elderly voice. He's terrible at accents, which came through very frequently in this book. I like to have narrators that make me forget I'm listening to someone read a book, and he's bad at that. His voice isn't displeasing, but when you have a wide range of characters, it's just not very fluid.

Surprising!

Where does Two Graves rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would rank it 9 out of ten. I enjoy the reader. He really manages to add to the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Two Graves?

I was so surprised to discover the identity of the murderer. Showed another dimension of Spec agent Pendergast. I love all the twists in this book. I love to read about the very unique characteristic of Pendergast and his ward. I have gotten addicted and can
Not wait for the next book!

What about Rene Auberjonois’s performance did you like?

I thoroughly enjoy listening to this narrator. He really makes the characters come to life and is very masterful In his depiction of Pendergast.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I think these writers manage to strike at all your emotions. I was mainly on the edge of my seat wondering who was going to survive this one. Pendergast and his many idiosyncrasies always make me laugh.

Any additional comments?

This entire series of books would be great fodder for a book club. Several of my friends read these books and we talk about them all the time!
