Publisher's summary

Following the events of Bloodless, the "exciting" and "nail-biting" new thriller in Preston & Child's #1 bestselling series will once again feature FBI Special Agent A. X. L. Pendergast and Constance Greene.

Against all odds, Constance has found a way back to the place of her origins, New York City in the late 1800s, and sets off on a quest to prevent the events that lead to the deaths of her sister and brother, and stop Manhattan’s most infamous serial killer, Dr. Enoch Leng of the seminal Pendergast novel The Cabinet of Curiosities, before his nefarious experiments come to fruition.

Meanwhile, in present-day New York, Pendergast is desperate to find a way to reunite with Constance—but will he find a way before it’s too late?

Cliffhanger

If I would have known it was a cliffhanger, I would have waited till the next book and read them in sequence. Otherwise, an interesting tale, if not a little windy with all the pompous dialogue.

Disappointed

A bit of a spoiler alert- I was very disappointed to learn the story isn’t finished. While I appreciate the apology from the author I’d have waited if I’d known. Otherwise enjoyed.

Redemption for the last book!

I have been a Pendergast fan from the beginning with Relic. Until Crimson Shore came along. Then the stories seemed to go downhill. Then came Bloodless. Time traveling giant mosquitoes? Yes the other stories had some odd quirk but they were “believable “ in a fictional sense. But Bloodless was just stupid. Anyway the Cabinet of Dr. Leng redeemed the series of Agent Pendergast. Yes it is a two part book series and I am anxiously awaiting the second book. The narrator was excellent. Gentlemen you have won my heart back.

The Pendergast series is always a favorite

Love this series! I miss listening to Rene Auberjonois, but narrator Jefferson Mays did an amazing job and I sincerely hope he will continue to read this series to us!!
Thank you.

What a story and what a cliffhanger!

A direct sequel to the last book this book flies by so fast it seems to be over barely after beginning. I will be eagerly awaiting the next thrilling chapter in the Pendergast story.
