Publisher's summary

In her stunning 200th novel, #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts proves why no one is better when it comes to flawlessly fusing high-stakes suspense with red-hot romance" (Booklist, starred review).

Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth Fitch finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive.

Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance security systems designer, her own protection is supplemented by a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. Unfortunately, that seems to be the quickest way to get attention in a tiny southern town.

The mystery of Abigail Lowery and her sharp mind, secretive nature and unromantic viewpoint intrigues local police chief Brooks Gleason, on both a personal and professional level. And while he suspects that Abigail needs protection from something, Gleason is accustomed to two-bit troublemakers, not the powerful and dangerous men who are about to have him in their sights.

And Abigail Lowery, who has built a life based on security and self-control, is at risk of losing both.

Officially My Favorite Nora Book

Narration - Julia Whelan - Killer! She's just such a super narrator - truly one of my all time favorites! Terrific narration voice, believable males, (and sexy too) and she really breathes personality into the characters.

I just did a little check through my shelves and this is the 27th Nora Roberts book that I've read and It's officially my favorite. Yeah, I went on a bit of a NR kick a while back. I usually enjoy her books, but I absolutely loved this one.

Elizabeth/Abigail is a female Sheldon Cooper. She's brilliant, with an IQ above 200, takes everything literal, she's quirky but charming, self sufficient, and dare I say - a bit of a bad ass, and did I say she's brilliant?

Brooks is absolutely delicious. If I could order him on Amazon, I would. Abigail does everything in her power to get rid of him and he just goes on about his business as if she didn't just shoot him down, talking away, charming the pants off of her and it made me smile and chuckle and honestly bow down in awe of Julia's mad narrative skills. She does such a fantastic job of interpreting the characters and bringing them to life. Her representation of Brooks was just so darn charming and endearing and at the same time, he was a bad ass too.

If you have agNORAphobia, get over it for this book. It's well researched, well written, VERY smart and just plain a terrific listen.
Yup...total book hangover.

Fluffy but a nice diversion

Haven't read fluff like this in many years, but after several books on dark, serious non-fiction, thought: "What the f@#k!" and indulged in some 'Power & Passion' drivel from the $4.95 bargain bin. But it was not half-bad, pounded through all 16 hours in 2.5 days. Surprisingly 'OK'.

Excellent Read!

Absolutely loved 'Liz'/Abigail. She made a great heroine. I can't remember the last time a character entertained me from beginning to end.

By the time the story concluded, I was wishing for a sequal.

Exciting book with a different theme.

I loved the story, but I thought the excessive use of foul language was unnecessary.
