On the other side of the world, in the silent depths of the ocean, lies the Mariana Trench, where the Megalodon has spawned since the dawn of time. Paleo-biologist Jonas Taylor once dared to enter this perilous cavern. He alone faced the monster and cut its heart out, and he wears the painful scars of that deadly encounter.
Now, as the body count rises and the horror of the Meg's attack grips the California coast, Jonas must begin the hunt again. But to do that means returning to the dark terror of the trench...where the Meg is waiting. Using himself as bait, Jonas will enter the ultimate battle - a fight to the death between man and beast in the darkest recesses of the ocean...and a fight for his sanity from the depths of his own tormented soul.

"When Angel rolls back her eyes and opens her jaws for the kill, readers will remember with a thrill why they picked up this novel in the first place." (Publishers Weekly)
The publishers summery doesn't do this book justice. By reading what the book was about I had my doubts. "Guy has run in with shark and later guy hunts shark" not to exciting. That wasn't the case at all. This book has a lot of extras that I never expected. Wonderful suspense and action. If you are on the fence go ahead and take a chance you won't be disapointed well worth my credit.
A good listen, but not for the squeamish. Alten intercuts two stories, the hunt for the always hungry shark with a credible and interesting international conspiracy. The story jumps into the action from the beginning and never lets up. Alten is pretty good at making the reader care about the characters which heightens the suspense. But if you cringe at reading about what goes through people's minds as they look out at the world from inside a shark's mouth, this book is not for you.
Suspenseful ,Detailed ,Action.
Yes. Between the subplots and the main plot the constant dipping back and forth keeps you anticipating.
I don't know there are just to many that i would use.
For Those who don't have have a lot of time to just sit down and read a good book this audiobook is great because you can listen to it at work home or in your car. i have listened to the trench at least five times since getting it and i'll keep on listened until the next two come out.
If you like the Meg series and books of that type you will like this I first read the book years ago but since I saw it in audio form I thought I would give it a go. it's the narrator that ruins it, if you can get by his bad accents and overall just bad voice then get it. if not stick to the kindle edition.
Fun times in Costa Rica. Eco tour and learned so much. Oversees Adventure Travel is the way to go if you want to visit somewhere
The descriptions of the seas before mankind. The tension between our main character and his Russian nemesis.
Maybe Jaws? This story and book one the Meg, were fairly unique for me.
I think his Russian and British accents were spot on, wouldn't one say? But a lot of the characters had a high pitched, nasal sound that was used too often. In my humble opinion.
Yes, but circumstances do prevent that. So I listen as I drive.
I like this author a bunch. I hope he stays at it because I will look for more of his stuff.
Love the story. At first, I thought the narrator sounded like all he's ever done was safety instruction voice overs. Once he started doing the different voices for different characters it got better.
Gotta love a great shark tale! Keeps you listening! Great storyline and character development blended with scientific research.
The narrator did great voices and read very well.
Mac, he just makes me laugh with his attitude.
All, he did amazing voices for all of them.
