Publisher's summary

Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

He is kidnapped by Pavlo, a savage Ukrainian mobster and mastermind of the failed heist. Now blocked from getting into the bank vault to retrieve the critical item inside, Pavlo gives Nate a horrifying ultimatum: Either break in and acquire the item or watch Pavlo slowly kill the people Nate loves most - his estranged wife, Janie, and his teenaged daughter, Cielle. Nate lost them both when he came back from Iraq broken and confused. Now he’s got one chance to protect the people he loves, even if it’s the last thing he is able to do.

Bad choices

Interesting premise but filled with annoying bad choices by everyone but the villains. I wanted to finish the book just to end the annoyance. Not bad but.......

Sparks meets Bourne

All the heart of a Nicholas Sparks plus some, and all the action of a Jason Bourne book. Highly recommend. Very enjoyable listen.

dramatic

The guy reading it, although it IS a drama, was entirely TOO dramatic. Fine for the exciting parts, but relaying the scenery could have been downplayed considerably. Very good story, not a fan of the reader.

great story from start to finish

I loved that this book was set so authentically in the Los Angeles area where I live. I found the book of fascinating from the beginning to the end great storyline well cold and a very unpredictable ending. I would highly recommend it

Excellent read!

I started with this author with "You're Next" so thought I would try another. Really enjoyed Scott Brick's narration and do again in this book. Am liking both this author and narrator!

Good story, kind of long, but intriguing

Enjoyed the story, main chatacter/hero is identified as having ALS early on in storyline, so you knew their wouldn't be a truly happy ending.

I stayed up much too late reading this book. The story pulls you in and won't let go. Details are artfully interwoven. The author has a fantastic use of language.
