Publisher's summary

She's braved battlefields. She's stolen dispatches from under the noses of heads of state. She's played the worldly courtesan, the naive virgin, the refined British lady, even a Gypsy boy. But Annique Villiers, the elusive spy known as the Fox Cub, has finally met the one man she can't outwit...

British spymaster Robert Grey must enter France and bring back the brilliant, beautiful - and dangerous - Fox Cub. His duty is to capture her and her secrets for England. When the two natural enemies are thrown into prison, they forge an uneasy alliance to break free. But their pact is temporary and betrayal seems inevitable as the fates of nations hang in the balance.

The best audiobook

I was blown away by the story and narration of this book. The narrator is the best I have listened to, she did such a variety of accents, I could not believe it was possible they were done by the same person. The story is very engaging and it deserves 5 star rating, but the audio version of the book deserves +5more points. I recommend this book for everyone, even if you do not like romance reads you will enjoy it. From french accents to german and english it was awesome!!!

Great book! Listened to it in 1 day!

What a great book. The characters, the story, the plot, the surprises. Fast paced, no boring middle of the book fillers. The hero and heroine both great strong characters. Just loved the Heroine she was strong and witty and so honest. Lots of dialogue throughout the book is always a bonus. The sex was mild but it was there. I listened/read this in one day it was that good.

The narrator did a fantastic job!

Intriguing

Twists and turns to the plot are unpredictable in this historical novel. It was an unprecedented book after reading and listening to many previous authors. Very entertaining.

She was willing to die . . .

From the first words, I was drawn in. Bourne is a master storyteller who throws the reader into a most unpredictably witty intrigue. The characters are engaging, caught in heart-stopping, action-packed situations, yet craftily resilient. Heroine, hero, supporting characters, even villains meet violence with confidence. Strong female character refuses to become victim to the violence encountered despite limitations pressed upon her and the constant reminder that death (or worse) are always realities for a female spy. Witty banter keeps dialog moving and the story is well paced. It is refreshing that the romantic couple actually engage in substantive conversations. The narrator Potter, does a believable job with a variety of characters (French, British and German). I read this in one day because I could not put it down. I had read others in this series prior to the Spymaster's Lady, so i appreciated some of the supporting characters even more. But upon finishing this one, I wanted to reread it again right away and to begin the series all over again. I highly recommend this thrilling historical romance!

Starte out slow but worth the wait..

Slow start but gets better through the chapters. I understand the reasoning behind all of the ground work. The narrator is exceptional. She's got me interested in the characters around them now. Can't wait for more audio from Joanna Bourne.

Great Story!

I loves the original storyline and this book had everything you could hope for. The female main character was strong and smart and the interaction between her and the Spymaster was wonderful.

The quality of the reader made this good historical romance story great. A very enjoyable time, even though I had read the book myself.

Heroine was smart and stupid

For a spy she made a lot of dumb mistakes. Wish she was stronger on a consistent basis, but loved the unique story line
