Publisher's summary

Private investigator Cormoran Strike must track down a missing writer - and a sinister killer bent on destruction - in this "wonderfully entertaining" mystery (Harlan Coben, New York Times Book Review) that inspired the acclaimed HBO Max series C.B. Strike.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him. When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, Strike must race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before...

A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, The Silkworm is the second in J. K. Rowling's highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant, Robin Ellacott.

Another good one

Enjoyable from start to finish. Better than the first in series. Narrator is superb. You won't be disappointed.

I hope for more of Strike and Robin

Beautifully performed by Robert Glenister, "The Silkworm" is a perfect follow-up to "Cuckoo's Calling." Everything you enjoyed about Galbraith's/Rowling's first book with Strike and Robin flourishes further in "Silkworm," and it brings you on a ride worth taking...one leading to one of the most exciting taxi cab rides you'll listen to. I enjoyed the story, characters, and mystery of Strike's second big case far more than Lula's, and that's a great thing...purely representative of Rowling's capacity to continuously improve upon her craft.

You are supposed to boil them

Pretty good, I am not sure if it is better than Cuckoo's calling. Very involved plot and many characters. Robin's development was good but I felt like there were a couple of plot holes that were never covered. Still all in all a good story.

A sequel worthy of the first story!

I so thoroughly enjoyed the second book of Cormoran Strike adventures! Why is it so easy to see all the clues and how they fit with the characters after Cormoran puts all the pieces together? Kept me listening every spare moment of the day- and now I'm not so patiently waiting for the next novel!

Better than the first book!!

This is still not my favorite genre, I started reading this series because I am a JK Rowling fan. Although areas of this book were morbidly gross I still found myself wanting to listen. I love the main characters Strike and Robin. I enjoy not being able to predict the ending, and of course the writing is wonderful. I can't wait for another in the series....I hear there will be six books in all.

Loved it!

I loved listening to this audiobook. I hadn't read the first one, but it didn't matter. Although it was referred to through the book, it only used it as a reference for the reason for Cormoran's fame. I loved the humanness of the characters, flawed, and easy to relate to. The narration was excellent. The characters came alive. Definately worth the spend of a credit, if you like a detective story without the sherlock "know-it-all" factor.

Builds Momentum After A Slow Start

I enjoyed this mystery especially the second half. I would have enjoyed a PDF of the characters included with the "audible" version of the novel since the first several chapters introduce many characters and I found tracking difficult throughout the first several chapters. This 2nd novel in the series further develops the characters of the private detective (Strike) and his secretary/assistant (Robin). I enjoyed the development of their characters and of their budding work and personal relationships. The other characters in the novel were well-developed, unique and realistically presented. The mystery was complicated due to the many characters but picqued my interest and held it through the end. This novel is written in the classic tradition of the English mystery novel using modern-day characters. I may listen again just to better clarify the roles of each character. If you liked the first book in the series, you'll most likely like this one too. I did.

J.K.Rowling Can Do Anything - including Mysteries

Where does The Silkworm rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Silkworm, written by Rowling under the pen name Robert Galbraith, is a fine sequel to Cucko's Calling, where we first meet Cormoran Strike and his charming Watson, Robin. Very impressed by A Casual Vacancy, Rowling's first outing post-Harry Potter, I find this series showcases her uncanny talent for taking an established genre and making it her own. The book is both funny and suspenseful, and Robert Glenister is the perfect narrator - a "must hear"!

Good storytelling

This is a good second book in the series. I liked the continued character development of the series principals. The story itself was really entertaining and well written. I'm looking forward to more in the series.
