Publisher's summary

In the murky shadows of an alley lies a female’s severed hand. On the tenement rooftop above is the corpse belonging to that hand, a red-haired woman dressed all in black, the body nearly decapitated. Two strands of silver hair — not human — cling to her body. They are Rizzoli’s only clues, but they’re enough for her and medical examiner Maura Isles to make a startling discovery: This violent death had a chilling prequel. Nineteen years earlier, a horrifying murder-suicide in a Chinatown restaurant left five people dead. One woman connected to that massacre is still alive: a mysterious martial arts master who knows a secret she dares not tell, a secret that lives and breathes in the shadows of Chinatown. A secret that may not even be human. Now she’s the target of someone, or something, deeply and relentlessly evil. Cracking a crime resonating with bone-chilling echoes of an ancient Chinese legend, Rizzoli and Isles must outwit an unseen enemy with centuries of cunning — and a swift, avenging blade.

Great story!!

It's always fun to read a book when you can picture the characters on tv. This story was a real page turner and hard to put down. Very twisted and intricate plot - really had to pay attention.

great

Would you listen to The Silent Girl again? Why?

loved it the first time. again, why not!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Silent Girl?

the chilling scene when rizzoli was staring death in the face and realised she was about to die.

Which scene was your favorite?

can't make up my mind. caught inside a meat processing plant in the pitch darkness, knowing a dangerous predator is watching you or clinging by the very tips of your fingers :-) many different scenes.

Any additional comments?

each book goes one better than the previous. this is one of very favourite series.

Tess worte an OUTSTANDING Book!

This book is awesome. The narrator did an excellent job which made it seem so real as if I were there in the story. I had to email Mrs. Gerritsen to let her know that she out-did herself on this one. This is by far my favorite book from my favorite author. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Great story, not a great listen

I loved the story! However, the narrator was boring! She didn't give expression to the characters and was just a step above monotone. She was too busy pronouncing her words so perfectly that that she was slow and expressionless. I have heard other Tess Gerritsen books and they were great! Bring back Anna Fields, Susan Denaker or Kathe Mazur!!!

Poor Narration

The narration detracts from the story. I'm disappointed. I've liked Gerritsen's novels in the past so I had been looking forward to this one.

Tess Gerritsen Just Gets Better and Better!

What did you love best about The Silent Girl?

I really loved the narration! I've tried to read this book several times, but I just couldn't get into the print version. Tanya Eby's great reading of the book really hooked me, and I was able to immediately connect. The mystery was also done really well, and while I was able to predict certain parts of the mystery, a few details really took me by surprise. I already have the next book waiting in my Audible queue, and I can't wait to get to it!

What other book might you compare The Silent Girl to and why?

Tess Gerritsen is one of my favorite thriller authors, and if you like her books then check out books by Karin Slaughter and Lisa Gardner.

Have you listened to any of Tanya Eby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I thought Eby did a great job with all of the characters and the different accents, from Bostonian to Chinese American, were impressive. I never had to wonder who was speaking, which can be a problem with a less experienced or talented narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely! I use the Audible app, usually at 2x speed, which helps speed things up, but it's one of the stories that will keep you driving around longer than necessary if you listen on your commute like I do.

Great plot! Audio performance needs help...

Where does The Silent Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The least I've enjoyed. It was incorrectly labeled and I listened to the part 2 first.
