Publisher's summary

America has enemies - ruthless people that the police, the FBI, even the military can't stop. That's when the U.S. government calls on Will Robie, a stone-cold hitman who never questions orders and always nails his target.

But Will Robie may have just made the first - and last - mistake of his career....

It begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable: He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people.

Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a 14-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway - her parents were murdered, and her own life is in danger. Against all of his professional habits, Robie rescues her and finds he can't walk away. He needs to help her.

Even worse, the more Robie learns about the girl, the more he's convinced she is at the center of a vast cover-up, one that may explain her parents' deaths and stretch to unimaginable levels of power. Now, Robie may have to step out of the shadows in order to save this girl's life... and perhaps his own.

Glad I ignored negative review

Would you consider the audio edition of The Innocent: A Novel to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version.

What other book might you compare The Innocent: A Novel to and why?

Really, it compares favorably with most David Baldacci novels.

What does Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I truly enjoy reading novels more than listening to them, but lack the time to read as much as I would like so I supplement with audio books. So, the narrators don't add more to my enjoyment. However, they are two of my favorites, Ron McLarty especially.

Any additional comments?

I am so glad I did not pay attention to the negative review on the postings. The individual criticized the background sound effects, but I found out they were only used for the prologue. The negative review also criticized the relationship between the main character and the teenaged girl. Conversely, I found the relationship quite believable. This was not Mr. Baldacci's best novel, but it was worth my time to listen to it.

Fantastic!!!

One of the best books I've listened to in a long time. There are a ton of twists and turns. The story moves quickly and rarely is there a lull in the action.

Great story!!

What made the experience of listening to The Innocent: A Novel the most enjoyable?

They audible experience was perfect! The female charactors were female, the male charactors were male and it was easy to get completely emmersed in the tale.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nikki Vance, she is a cop that was completely believable, her charactor was the glue between the other two pivotal charactors (Roby and Julie) who were both extraordinary
in thier respective roles. She was the "pepper in the gumbo", by adding spice to the entire story.

Have you listened to any of Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I thought it was riveting.

Any additional comments?

Cant wait for the next one.

Great book

As always David Baldacci knows how to tell a story. The characters are compelling and consistent. I've read other books he had written and though some characters are similar they have their own personality and story that always draws you in and entertains.
