Publisher's summary

"I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she's scared. But I will."

Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Colin's job was to abduct Mia as part of a wild extortion plot and deliver her to his employers. But the plan takes an unexpected turn when Colin suddenly decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota, evading the police and his deadly superiors. Mia's mother, Eve, and Detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them, but no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family's world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a compulsive debut that reveals how, even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

Featured Article: The Best Women Narrators to Listen to Right Now

One of the biggest questions listeners have when it comes to approaching a new audiobook is whether or not they'll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable, as audiobooks are at least a few hours long (with many clocking in at 20 hours long—or more!), and sticking with one person's voice for that time period can feel like a big commitment. We rounded up some of the best female narrators with a robust list of audiobooks under their belts.

Narrator was terrible

The story was okay. The female narrator was terrible when she tried to put on an American accent. Very distracting.

The end will make you want to read it over again.

I've been on a thriller kick lately and this book did not disappoint. I enjoyed the style of this book which jumped from past to present until the end brought the two together.
The author has a fantastic twist at the end that made my jaw drop. I would have gone back and re-listened to the book, knowing what the end revealed, had I not be anxious to read another book on my list.

Quite good

I got this when audible offered it as a free listen. Considering the investment, it was a great gift from audible. The narrators are great specially Tom Taylerson. Unpredictable ending yet, good. I would recommend this.

Wasn't a favorite

I thought the writing was really good and the acting right on point but the story was a bit slow, very anti-climatic, and unfortunately predictable.

Interesting

Usually I figure out endings and whats going on pretty early but didn't expect this ending. Wasn't suspenseful like I was hoping but made me think.

Oh, what a piece of work is woman!

What did you love best about The Good Girl?

I am still thinking about all the implications and consequences of this story. One of the women in the story is not who she first appears to be.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There were several characters but not too many for an audio book and the narration was easy to follow. It was unusual to listen to a story told mostly through interior monologue and in first person. At first the flashbacks annoyed me, but soon I didn't notice them anymore. I think hearing this book rather than reading it in print heightened the emotional tone of the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This is a story about a young woman who is kidnapped and there are several very emotional scenes where her mother's overwhelming fear created heartstrings for me. The father was a total narcissist whose cruelty angered me.

Any additional comments?

I needed some time to process this story and its ending. Every character was living a lie or was in some form of denial. The character development was excellent. Without giving a spoiler alert, the ending could be summed up by saying, "We reap what we sow."
