INSPIRATION FOR THE ORIGINAL SERIES THE LINCOLN LAWYER–THE #1 TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

Defense attorney Mickey Haller is forced to bend the law until it breaks when he is hired to defend a man accused of killing a prostitute in this novel of courtroom suspense, the "best one yet" (The Washington Post).

Mickey Haller gets the text, "Call me ASAP—187," and the California penal code for murder immediately gets his attention. Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game.

When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life. Far from saving her, Mickey may have been the one who put her in danger.

Haunted by the ghosts of his past, Mickey must work tirelessly and bring all his skill to bear on a case that could mean his ultimate redemption or proof of his ultimate guilt. The Gods of Guilt shows once again why "Michael Connelly excels, easily surpassing John Grisham in the building of courtroom suspense" (Los Angeles Times).

Critic reviews

"The combination of this fast-paced courtroom drama and Giles's steady and consistent narration makes for an engrossing listening experience…Giles's rich portrayals help listeners differentiate the multiple characters as Haller becomes convinced that his client is not only innocent but also the victim of an elaborate setup involving local police and DEA agents." (AudioFile)

"Connelly knows when to put his foot on the gas and when to take it off. Once he has you on board, turning the pages, you won't want to climb off." (Boston Globe)

"Haller is the kind of slick, cynical showman who can't resist making high drama out of every legal procedure....There's always something deadly serious behind Connelly's entertaining courtroom high jinks" (New York Times Book Review)

Loved if!

Second time listening to it since I first heard it years ago. And as before, I could not stop listening. Great story, fast paced with lots of twists and turns and a dynamite ending.

I only wish there were many more Mickey Haller books.

Great beginning, middle and especially the end!

If you could sum up The Gods of Guilt in three words, what would they be?

It's great story and I didn't want it to end! I hope he has more with books with Michael Holler (sp)

Haller is just so damn good!

This one doesn't have the best trial, but I found it to be the most engaging of all the Haller books!

justice can be at a high price

would you take a job even after knowing some people close to you would be killed if it meant justice for a bad guy who just happens to be innocent of the crime?

Best one yet!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've been a fan since the first Lincoln Lawyer book, but I really think this is the best one yet. I caught myself sitting in the driveway, because I didn't want to turn it off.

Mickey is caught in that grey area of the law that his ex-wife & daughter don't believe in, and that his former client lived in. His emotional wellbeing thru the entire book is raw, and pulled you in. It was a roller coaster ride from beginning to end, and I was glad to ride along.

What did you like best about this story?

The references to the movie caught me off guard, and made me smile. :) But I always love the (very) brief tie in with Bosch. Without giving away the story twists, there were some events that didn't just rock Mickey's world, but also brought tears to my eyes. When a book can do that, it's a great book.

Amazing

While this was a little slow in the middle it made up for it in spades. I really enjoyed it.

A Great Listen

Narration was great and easy to listen to. Storyline was riveting and is a good addition to "Lincoln Lawyer " series. Nothing else to say.

Micky Haller - the Lincoln lawyer

This one is really good. (They are all good). Characters are developing nicely. I am glad I am reading them in chronological order!
