Publisher's summary

On a well-deserved hiatus from the ghoulish grind of their TV show, Ghoul Getters, psychic medium M. J. Holliday, her boyfriend, Heath, and her best friend, Gilley, are back home in Boston. But there’s no rest for the weary ghost busters. M. J.’s ex comes to her for help - his fiance’s brother Luke seems haunted by a sinister spirit.

The crew sets up surveillance cameras to watch for the possessive poltergeist while Luke is sleeping. But when he goes outside in the middle of the night and returns hours later covered in blood, they are all very concerned - especially when the news reports the murder of a young woman in the neighborhood.

Now M. J., Heath, and Gilley must remain self-possessed as they try to stop a wicked ghost whose behavior is anything but neighborly.

Creepy Ghost Mystery

Victoria Laurie, has another winner! Funny, charming, witty and one SCARY demon make for a fantastic story. Narration was flawless and added to my enjoyment of the listening experience. The only bad thing is now we have to wait for the next book, so sad about that! Oh well, these books are great to hear over and over, so I can always start at the beginning and listen to them all again. Thanks VL, LOVED it!

These books are so much fun!

What did you love best about The Ghoul Next Door?

She writes so good. both of her series of books are good. Just listen to one of these, the parrot will be the one you fall in love with if not the high strung assistant.

It kept me guessing

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ghoul Next Door to be better than the print version?

I sometimes like to have the print version handy in case I'm having trouble comprehending parts of the book, but I did like the audio version better. I work on a computer all day long so the audiobook gives my eyes a break. It's made me appreciate a good narrator like Eileen Stevens. A bad narrator can ruin a book. Eileen uses different voices for different characters and keeps them consistent when a character is used in several books. She has a pleasant voice and I love listening to her.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Heath. I love a good studmuffin! Not only is he tall, dark and handsome, but he's sensitive and caring.

Which character – as performed by Eileen Stevens – was your favorite?

I can't say he's my favorite, but ES's narration is perfect for his sometimes irritating nature. That would be Gilley.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When MJ helped Lester and his deceased wife communicate, my throat got tight and my eyes started watering. I'm a sucker for a love that lasts long after one person has died and the other is left behind.

Any additional comments?

There were a lot of characters to keep track of so I had to listen to this more than once, but that was no hardship. I really feel like I got my money's worth.

loved every minute!

The story line was well written, suspenseful throughout. The ending was a tearjerker nonetheless. Beautiful

Ghost story really good

If you could sum up The Ghoul Next Door in three words, what would they be?

Exciting, Scary and Fun!!!!.

What other book might you compare The Ghoul Next Door to and why?

M J,s adventures are all really good

What does Eileen Stevens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Added color with her voice, like listening to old time radio, really good

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Scary and Fun

Any additional comments?

I loved it. It makes other ones kind of dull sorry to say. I hope Victoria Laurie continues on with this series.

what?

What happened? All the things I love about Victoria Laurie's books was MIA in this one. Even rhe narrator, who is usually fantastic, is off. Her voices for the characters all seem to run together and there are just minor tries to add appropriate voice inflictions. Also, MJs character was not the strong stabilizing woman in this book. She was manipulation rationalize and little character development all the was around. I am still a fan and will get the next book and hope this almost complete waste of time was a fluke.

Pet peeve #1: Authors that recreate the past they have already created for their characters!

Least favorite book... though the underlying story was decent ... this author is rewriting characters pasts AGAIN. She did it in the private eye books forgetting about contact the main character and changing the back story of them being stuck up, inattentive and shunning her gift to being abusive.

Now she is trying to blame the break up of MJ and Stephen on him... really?? Did the couple not work? Yes. Is she better with Heath? Yes.... BUT don't rewrite history to make him the bad guy. She cheated on him.... no, they hadn't slept together, but it was cheating all the same.... SHE was the inattentive one in the relationship, took him for granted and made him feel unnecessary and in the way.... HE funded her businesses quit his job as a heart surgeon to start teaching (also due to an injury) he started teaching/lecturing, funded her businesses and followed her around like a puppy dog trying to help her.

Now suddenly he's back working as a doctor, and was supposedly the inattentive stuck up bad guy???

REALLY?? Does she like all her readers are stupid?

sheesh. I was so mad about this I had trouble even keeping up with the story. 😡
