Another thrilling adventure featuring John Wells, the deep cover CIA operative from the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Faithful Spy and The Deceivers.

John Wells barely survived his homecoming when it was thought he’d become too close to the terrorists. Though his wounds have healed, his mind is far from clear. He needs to get back in the fight. And there is a fight waiting for him.

A power play in China is causing chaos around the globe. And even as Wells does what he does best, a mole within the CIA is preparing to light the final fuse that will propel an unsuspecting world toward open war and annihilation. And this time, there may be nothing John Wells can do to stop it....

Critic reviews

“A very sophisticated vision...Geopolitically savvy.” (The New York Times)

“A fast-paced story of international intrigue and espionage...Wells is a fine character who will likely propel Berenson’s thrillers to success for some time to come.” (Chicago Sun-Times)

The next Tom Clancy??

"The ghost war" was a well thought out well written novel if you like the type of spy CIA world terror type of plot! I wasn't really crazy about the reader. But after the story started to take on it's own life I was able to put him the reader aside. There were a few loose ends that could've been tied up a bit better but I just drew the conclusion that instead of tying it up it could've drawn it out there for causing one to become bored with the book. It did captivate me enough to find it difficult to put it down! I have now read two in the series and I'm onto the third! I would definitely recommend reading or listening to this book...

One of Berenson's best

What made the experience of listening to The Ghost War the most enjoyable?

Half of the experience is the story - and the other half is the supurb performance by George Guidall

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes and no. Yes - great story. No - I listen to all audiobooks while commuting to work - if I pull into the parking lot at the high point of a chapter, I just save it till next time. Not the book's fault.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

Absolutely the best audiobook performer I've ever listened to. His ability to play so many different characters, accents, languages, genders - is amazing. I love his voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not exactly

Any additional comments?

If you like Vince Flynn or Brad Thor, you'll like this book. Some reviews were critical of this book - I have no idea why - it's one of his better ones (I've listened to them out-of-order). If you're politically conservative, you'll love this series. If you're a moderate to far left liberal, you probably hate it. In these books, unlike real life, terrorists aren't treated with velvet gloves.

great tale

another great story written know the international canvas. it is hard to tell the good guys from the bad ones at times. even though I always knew John Wells would out. knowing it's fiction doesn't change the insight into geopolitical matters.

Don't miss this one

Superb writing style. You will have to be careful not to let so engrossed in the story that you just sit there and listen. I can hardly wait for mowing season to start. At least then I can listen and do some work.

Bit of a reality stretch but makes a good story

I'm really getting into Berenson and with George Guidall it comes out as a dynamic duo. Duplicating a nuke is a bit of a stretch but still makes for a good story. And for me, that's what it's all about.

liked it.

enjoyed the story all the way to the end. i’m beginning the next story right away so i can see what happens next. but the intermittent background cell phone noises were irritating. there were keyboard clicks, etc. off and on throughout the story. hopefully, it’s just in this story only.

We need more like this in espionage literature

My first read of Alex Berenson and his John Wells series and I wasn’t disappointed. Well-researched. The plot seems plausible, a Chinese Minister of Defense who’s gone rogue in a power grab, threatening to spark WWIII. Will Wells save the day? Well-crafted characters, especially on the Chinese side. Berenson has contributed a fine novel to the spy thriller genre. We tire of the Russian connection. Give us more of China in the Great Game of espionage literature.

Very Engaging

This is one of those books you listen too that is a real "page turner" thrilling till the end. It does leave you wanted to down load the sequel book to see what happens to our characters. Enjoy
