Publisher's summary

Introducing Wyoming's Sheriff Walt Longmire in this riveting novel from the New York Times best-selling author of Dry Bones, the first in the Longmire series, the basis for the hit Netflix original series Longmire.

Fans of Ace Atkins, Nevada Barr, and Robert B. Parker will love this outstanding first novel, in which New York Times best-selling author Craig Johnson introduces Sheriff Walt Longmire of Wyoming's Absaroka County. Johnson draws on his deep attachment to the American West to produce a literary mystery of stunning authenticity, full of memorable characters. After 25 years as sheriff of Absaroka County, Walt Longmire's hopes of finishing out his tenure in peace are dashed when Cody Pritchard is found dead near the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Two years earlier, Cody has been one of four high school boys given suspended sentences for raping a local Cheyenne girl. Somebody, it would seem, is seeking vengeance, and Longmire might be the only thing standing between the three remaining boys and a Sharps .45-70 rifle.

With lifelong friend Henry Standing Bear, Deputy Victoria Moretti, and a cast of characters both tragic and humorous enough to fill in the vast emptiness of the high plains, Walt Longmire attempts to see that revenge, a dish best served cold, is never served at all.

Yay, found a new book series to enjoy.

For a long time I couldn't buy most of the Longmire audiobooks due to the dreaded "Title Not For Sale In This Country/Region" message. Now it seems that audible (or the publisher) has obtained these rights. About time!

Loved the book. Strong and vivid characters. Great story. After just one book I suspect that I'll follow this series for a long time.

George Guidall's narration matched my image of Longmire perfectly. A baker's dozen of books to go. Yay!

Captivating story, characters who endear themselve

This story is worth your time, worth your money. Each character came to life. The ending wasn't entirely unexpected, but created a sad, yet satisfying wrap up. Warning: the deputy, while another unique character that you want to know more about, has the mouth of a sailor. No offense meant to sailors.

boy howdy

Where does The Cold Dish rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Best of the best. If you like the west and mysteries, there is no better combination than Walt Longmire. Im not one for long reviews where I give away all the details and try to out-do the writer, so just take my word for it and get the damn book. You won't regret it. Trust me.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

My inner-voice bows to george Guidalls actual voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this book in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

Even though Audible shows me no love in writing these reviews that help their business, I still take time out of my busy schedule to write reviews because, well because I'm addicted to audio books and Audible is my dealer. Trust me, get the book and enjoy.

Good Read

What made the experience of listening to The Cold Dish the most enjoyable?

This was not my favorite of the Longmire series. But it was worth the read. If you are a Longmire fan it is worth reading because it moves the story of Longmire's life through the series forward.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Longmire - I enjoy how he takes his duty as sheriff extremely series but somehow does it in such a way that seems amazingly laid back.

Would you listen to another book narrated by George Guidall?

Not my favorite narrator but he did a decent job

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Definitely the end which would be had to explain without a spoiler

So happy I got to listen!

This is the 3rd Walter Longmire book I've listened to, but this story takes place in time before the others. I did not lose any of understanding of the characters reading the stories out of time, though. Each story stands on its own. I hope there are many more!

Cold Dish

I almost gave up on this one. Took awhile to get into--and then all of a sudden I was surround by the characters and the story and I couldn't turn it off for the night. Westerns aren't always a sure thing for me. But this story is a good bet. A good story. Well told.
