Book 3 in the series. In an ancient tunnel underneath New York City a charnel house is discovered. Inside are 36 bodies all murdered and mutilated more than a century ago. Excellent overall

Hachette continues to seek the best reader for this series. First reader gets maybe a C. The second book was read by Dick Hill, he gets a D. He didn’t ruin the book, but he tried. Only the excellent story line will get you thought book 2 of the Pendergast series. Before we get to book 3 (this one), take time to listen to Thunderhead by Preston and Child’s. It’s not a Pendergast book, but there’s continuity of characters which I think make book 3 more enjoyable. Plus it’s a good story, and Scott Brick does a great job reading. He’s actually the reader for some later Pendergast books, but can’t remember how well he does. More later. He’s on of my favorite narrators over all. Book three is excellent, and the real start to the development, or expose, of Pendergast himself. Mr Marosz does an excellent job narrating. I’d give him a B/B+. Only because the last few books were almost perfectly read, I’m not sure they can be topped. Looking ahead there’s still numerous changes in narration, such is life. The story, is excellent overall. Mysterious, and maybe preternatural. It’s not really my genre, but it’s so well written, and the story is so captivating, I don’t really mind the absurdity of parts of the plot. I guess I’d rather the absurd be part of the story, than the by product of bad writing. This is my second go round of listening to the series, and I’m enjoying it almost as much as the first time. Knowing a bit of what to come actually detracts a bit, but not much. Enjoying more now that the Hachette readers are doing the story justice.

Another Great Story

I loved this story. A nice amount of twists and turns and great characters doing as well. There are no disappointments. The voice was great. I also liked the length of the story. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Fantastic narrator

The narrator keeps you hanging on every word, but in a good way. Love the Pendergast novels, the author are fantastic. I have read all the books, but I am traveling alot now, and was tired of the same old stuff on the radio. I got the series on Audible and love it.

The story was interesting,

The FBI agent back story was very clever. Loved the historical element that was threaded throughout the book.

Pendergast at His Finest

We are back with Pendergast as we learn a little bit about his dark family history in The Cabinet of Curiosities. Great story that leads into the following books in the series and gives us new and intriguing characters to enjoy.

Pendergast character development

Graphic descriptions, plot twists, unexpected turns. This is Preston & Child at their macabre best. Highly recommend.

Terrible narration!

The book was ruined by the narrator! Ruined the book. I usually love the books by these authors, but the narrator ruined it.

Completely frightening! Loved it!

This was my first taste of the Pendergast series, and won't be the last.
The tale starts out with a grim discovery of a mass murderer's graveyard, hidden beneath a construction site in New York. It's quickly covered up, but not before FBI agent Pendergast gets interested. The somewhat illusive character employs the help of several people to help him delve in to the mystery of the bone discovery.
From then on, it's a roller coaster ride of suspense, murder, intrigue, and horror. No one is safe in this book, and you find yourself saying 'oh no, this can't be happening!'. What a thriller this is, and guaranteed to keep the earbuds on.
