Book 3 in the series. In an ancient tunnel underneath New York City a charnel house is discovered. Inside are 36 bodies all murdered and mutilated more than a century ago. Yet another chilling Pendergast novel.

Riveting and hard to put down. This one answers many of the Pendergast family backstory questions.

Bad editing

There were a lot of sections that included a sentence repeated. I doubt that's how it's written in the book. It was distracting.

Finally an unabridged audio version!

Preston, Child, Pendergast: always a winner.

The fun in this series is that the totally improbable fits nicely into the real world. Pendergast is unorthodox and the mysteries are weird, but it all seems to come together for an entertaining book.

This was the one missing piece in my Pendergast audible library. I look forward to each new installment.

Jonathan Marosz performed the narration well.

Great narration but technical repeats.

This narrator is just as good as Rene Aubergenois (sp?) with nuanced changes in vocal qualities for the different characters....Preston and Child tend to be a bit predictable, but the history and science introduced in each of the Pendergast novels make up for it...as in Dan Brown's work. The probably with this particular recording is that in at least seven instances there were 15-20 second segments that repeated themselves....Editors, pay attention!

Excellent - great character backstory

Took one back to the last 1800s within the story. All the regular Characters came alive (some dead). One of Preston & Child’s best!

Great story, a few lines repeat

LOVED this book! Once in a while though the audio repeated itself, perhaps 3-4 sentences.

Good mystery, good Pendergast featured book

I started reading the series in the middle of the series, after stumbling onto one of the books… White fire, I think. I have now gone all the way back to the beginning to read the entire series. I did not like the first two books (Relic and reliquary) and honestly, if I had read them first, I would probably have not continued reading the series. This is the first book in the series that connects with what I loved about the series in the later books. It is not my favorite, but I am enjoying finding out how things that happened in later books started. I did enjoy this Book even though it isn’t my favorite. This was an interesting mystery, that I did not easily solved in my own head. To me that is the sign of a well written mystery. I only figured out, “who done it,“ right about the time the characters did. I got suspicious very shortly before they revealed it, but it was not obvious to me, and I loved that. I felt the narrator was decent in this one, however having been such a fan of the later books and the narrator that they used in each of those, who was so extremely awesome, this one was pretty good, but not as perfect, as Renee.

Lots of mystery and history in this installment ..

Lots of mystery and history in this installment of Pendergast's adventures.

Pendergast appears to try to take care of a bit of OLD 'family business' and follows the trail of a very unique killer, with Smithbag trailing him, as always looking for his next piece of fame.

Three series characters make their entry ' great aunt Cornelia ' and 'Wren ' as well as Pendergast's chauffeur (and bodyguard?) Proctor.

Recommended !!!
