Publisher's summary

Present day: Julia Hamill has made a horrifying discovery on the grounds of her new home in rural Massachusetts: a skull buried in the rocky soil - human, female, and, according to the trained eye of Boston medical examiner Maura Isles, scarred with the unmistakable marks of murder.

Boston, 1830: In order to pay for his education, medical student Norris Marshall has joined the ranks of local "resurrectionists" those who plunder graveyards and harvest the dead for sale on the black market. But when a distinguished doctor is found murdered and mutilated on university grounds, Norris finds that trafficking in the illicit cadaver trade has made him a prime suspect.

With unflagging suspense and pitch-perfect period detail, The Bone Garden deftly traces the dark mystery at its heart across time and place to a finale as ingeniously conceived as it is shocking.

Solve another case with medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles.

Great Read

The ending was not what I expected. I'll be rereading it to see what I missed.

Revised Novel

I have enjoyed many of Tess Gerritsen’s novels. But this one I have reread many times and decided to listen to it on a long road trip. I am definitely not disappointed.

Interesting but tedious

The story did a good job of showing what it was like to live in the 1800’s in much cringe-worthy blood and guts details. The book had a fair amount of smaltzy Romance and the mystery was interesting. It did make me appreciate that in today’s world we have anesthesia...

Worth the wait

If you are like me and just hate the long process to get to the point, this may be hard to hear. The Bone Garden takes its time to suck you in but, when it does you will yearn for the reader to 'go faster, go faster' while wanting to savor every minute on this adventure. Living in Pennsylvania for over 20 years and being raised in Massachusetts make this even more enjoyable to hear my native tongue and be reminded of familiar places, imagining them in my head with out the high-rises and construction filled roads. Best of all the view of young love through the eyes of Rose, feisty and unabashed and hopeful for Julia to once again believe in fate beyond her understanding. If you love a doctor like I do, love Boston or a good mystery, you will love this book.

Loved this book!!

At first, I wasn't too sure I was going to like The Bone Garden... However, once it got going, I didn't want it to stop! I loved how it went back and forth between 1830 and the present -- and the different characters... and the twists and turns... I was actually disappointed when I pulled into the office or home each day and had to turn it off. I highly recomment this story of Rose Connely. This is the second book I've listened to by Tess Garritsen -- definitely like her writings!!

Good back and forth mystery

Good characterization of Boston in the 1830s, well-constructed mystery. I was disappointed by the ooey-gooey ending.
