Publisher's summary

With Reacher, number-one New York Times best-selling author Lee Child has created “a series that stands in the front rank of modern thrillers” (The Washington Post)

Everything starts somewhere....

For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997. A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A coverup.

A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.

Reacher is ordered undercover - to find out everything he can, to control the local police, and then to vanish. Reacher is a good soldier. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, he finds layers no one saw coming, and the investigation spins out of control.

Local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux has a thirst for justice - and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust one another, Reacher and Deveraux reluctantly join forces. Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his mission, and turn him into a man to be feared.

A novel of unrelenting suspense that could only come from the pen of number-one New York Times best-selling author Lee Child, The Affair is the start of the Reacher saga, a thriller that takes Reacher - and his readers - right to the edge... and beyond.

PLEASE NOTE: As a special bonus, this download also includes a recording of the New York Times best-selling e-book exclusive short story "Second Son", read by Dick Hill: At 13, Jack Reacher already knows how to end a fight. He knows that his brain is more important than his brawn. He knows how to get the job done. When his father is transferred to the military base on Okinawa, Jack and his older brother, Joe, prepare for school and consider how to deal with both the neighborhood bully and a missing code book that could cost their father his career.

Take another thrill ride with Jack Reacher.

Love Jack Reacher

Would you consider the audio edition of The Affair to be better than the print version?

Probably

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is the voice of Jack Reacher to me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Sure, that would have been a great way to hear it!

Any additional comments?

Can't go wrong with a Jack Racher novel!

AFFAIR FOR REACHER!

If you could sum up The Affair in three words, what would they be?

GREAT READ!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Affair?

This is the second time I had read. All Reacher books are good; however, I think this is on the list of very memorable.

Which scene was your favorite?

The parts with the train and had how it played just a dramatic part in the book.

Lots of other Jack Reacher stories in this audible

Would you listen to The Affair again? Why?

The book was well done. I liked the characters and the development of the sheriff. Plus I liked the additional two stories at the end of the book. One about young Reacher as a 13-year-old kid and another the beginning of another Reacher novel.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was intriguing. However, the murder description(s) was a little more than I needed.

What three words best describe Dick Hill’s voice?

He needs help with Southern Accents. The people came off sounding brain damaged. The female voices would have been better done by a female (two narrators).

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I found that I was looking for an excuse to listen to this book. It hooked me.

Any additional comments?

Jack is still MP and is sent undercover into a Mississippi town that has a base to investigate a murder. This is the book where he leaves the military.

Classic Reacher. Great foundation Prequel.

Dick Hill IS the voice of Reacher. Another great story that provides a sense of where Reacher comes from

BEST REACHER NOVEL TO DATE

What made the experience of listening to The Affair the most enjoyable?

This book goes back in time not only to solve a murder but to explain why Reacher left the military. At the end is another short story about Reacher and his brother when they were young teenagers. Don't miss either one of them - and if you have not already ck out Lee Child's web site. Good reading :)

The missing story - Learning more about Reacher

Where does The Affair rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

On a scale of 1 to 10, it's at least an 8.5

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Very much so. Even though there were a few mistakes made by Lee Child which were glaring, the story and plot were good.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Lord yes! He is the Grand Master. Give this guy an Emmy or Oscar or what ever the award is for best story telling. Truly love this man.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Had one moment of extreme disappointment because Mr. Child made a big error in one scene which he should have known better but aside from that it wasn't really meant to make you laugh or cry, the story was meant to keep you guessing. Mission accomplished.

Any additional comments?

I have read (listened to) all of the Jack Reacher stories several times and they never got old or boring or even predictable (strange since you already know how the story ends) but truly the stories are fab. This book takes you back to the beginning and fills in some gaps that make books 1 through 15 even more interesting. I can hardly wait for the next Jack Reacher story to come out. Oh, and not to be misunderstood, did I mention how fabulous Dick Hill is with his narration? Man that guy is golden!

NOT HIS WORST

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

BUTT ALMOST I feel like I time warped back before the first book which I hate. Why not just call this book number 1.
