Publisher's summary

A breathtaking discovery at the top of the world...
A terrifying collision between modern science and Native American legend . . .
An electrifying new thriller from New York Times best-selling author Lincoln Child.

Two hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle lies Alaska's Federal Wildlife Zone, one of the most remote and inhospitable places on Earth. But for paleoecologist Evan Marshall and a small group of fellow scientists, an expedition to the Zone represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study the effects of global warming.

Everything about the expedition changes, however, with an astonishing find. On a routine exploration of a glacial ice cave, the group discovers an enormous ancient animal, encased in solid ice. The media conglomerate sponsoring their research immediately intervenes and arranges the ultimate spectacle: the creature will be cut from the ice, thawed, and revealed live on television. Despite dire warnings from the local Native American village, and the scientific concerns of Marshall and his team, the "docudrama" plows ahead...until the scientists make one more horrifying discovery. The beast is no regular specimen; it may be an ancient killing machine. And they may be premature in believing it dead.

In this riveting new thriller, Lincoln Child weaves together a stunning Arctic landscape, a terrifying mythic creature, and a pervasive mood of chaos and fear. With Terminal Freeze, Child demonstrates why he has become a major best-selling author, and why his novels electrify and enthrall so many.

Fantastic

Fantastic story. Not only did it draw me in immediately but many parts of the story piqued my interest enough to send me to the Internet to learn more. Excellent blend of fact and fiction and plausible story. Also as usual for Lincoln Child a good mix of characters with depth. Over all a great book.

exciting to the end

Interesting story line, still don't understand some of the mechanics of several parts - but it's a story that keeps your attention with characters to love and hate. I would recommend - just have to suspend your disbelief in a few spots.

Great Listen!

This was my first audio book and I enjoyed every minute of it. I work part time cleaning houses and I joined audible so I could "read" books while I am working. This story captured my attention from the beginning and made my house cleaning jobs go by much faster. The suspense and surprises kept me listening for hours at a time. I even listened to it after my daughter went to bed because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.

Slow to excite

The book carries a lot of detail, too much to get your head around when heard as an audio book. The story itself is fascinating, but could have been made better if Jeremy Logan had a deeper role in the flow of events. Bringing in his experience as a historian could have have added more of what I look for in Lincoln Child's books.
The narrator's tone went well with the book content.

Intrigueing

A different twist on the blending of science, and unexplained events that touch on supernatural.

Delicious Ending!

This is a Classic! Well written, well narrated and leaves you with delicious questions in your mind! This is the best kind of book to listen to....the characters are flawed but spunky and the "Creature"???
By the end you don't know whether to be terrified, fascinated or sad! At a risk of spoiling the ending; with One simple phrase, all the possibilities twist!!! Perspective is everything!! Excellent!!

Good Story

I've seen a lot of negative reviews on this book/audiobook. People claiming that the story was tired or just a bad retelling of "The Thing (John Carpenter)" I love the original "The Thing" and the remake. But I disagree about how this story copies it. Yes, it's in the Arctic and involves a group of scientists, but that's all. I loved the story and the characters. It's a book I re-listen to a lot. I guess it's just personal taste.

Suspense builder but not much else

The story isn't bad exactly, but it keeps dishing out the suspense of what the creature looks like as a way to keep the reader interested. Scott Brick did a masterful job as always, but I found myself wanting the story to be over just so I could check it off of the list.

What just happened?

Love historical fiction, Logan is a character to follow.

Looking forward to the next tale.
