In one bloody night, three of Washington’s most powerful politicians are executed with surgical precision. Their assassins then deliver a shocking ultimatum to the American government: set aside partisan politics and restore power to the people. No one, they warn, is out of their reach—not even the president. A joint FBI-CIA task force reveals the killers are elite military commandos, but no one knows exactly who they are or when they will strike next. Only Michael O’Rourke, a former U.S. Marine and freshman congressman, holds a clue to the violence: a haunting incident in his own past with explosive implications for his country’s future.

Story is okay but I was looking for Mitch to come in at any time. Coleman, Kennedy and Stanfill made it interesting.
Yes and I have at least 9 already.
It ranks in the top half of all the audiobooks I have listened to so far. Given today's environment in Washington, the premise of the story was interesting and timely even though it was written 10 years ago. No Mitch Rapp was slightly disappointing, but it was better in some ways to have many of the familiar characters involved just before his arrival in subsequent books.
Interesting plot, kept the listener engaged.
Similar to other of his narrations. Good narration, nice character differentiation.
Worth the credit.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. This novel had the feel of a first attempt. Fortunately for all of us Flynn has continued to grow and build on some of these characters. I had heard this novel was a little choppy but I really wanted to see where it all began. Thank you Vince Flynn, I love your books.
The plot establishes an underground patriot network resolved to getting the country back on track and do away with entrenched partisan politics. Term Limits it the very best of Vince Flynn!
Congressman Michael O'Rourke and Scott Coleman.
When O'Rourke whipped Stu Garrett in the Oval office.
No any particular moment the overall concept and planning seemed excellently composed.
Outstanding read. I have 9 Vince Flynn audio books. This should be made into screenplay and a movie.
If you are a Vince fan you'll see 'origin of' several characters like the comic books of our youth. Familiar people but nary a mention of Mitch. Vince must have written this on lunch breaks but it is still a great 'secret wish' of any sentient patriot. The editor who said 'wait until you need a break' is fine by me because it gave us a Vince when he needed a break. Buy it! (400 plus titles bought).
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and this is now one of my favorite Vince Flynn novels. The plot twists and turns were not what I thought was coming at times which is rare for me. I thought most of the characters were believable and the plot line was ingenious. What would happen if our own elite warriors decided our elected leaders were more corrupt and more of a threat to the United States Constitution than the foreign powers they have been training to fight? Great premise.
71-year-old grandmother who has been an avid reader all my life. I have recently retired from being a litigation attorney (for Plaintiffs).
I loved the entire Mitch Rapp series and was not sure I would like a stand-alone version. Although this is not a Mitch Rapp escapade, it has many of the trappings with several of the same characters (Director Stansfield, Irene Kennedy, and several others, including Skip McMahan who plays a big role in this adventure. I found it particularly appealing given the present political climate. THe President's Chief of Staff, Garrett, is a particularly offensive person who really needed a good kick in the behind. I thought he had too much power to be believable, but I also found him necessary to the overall story.
This book gives new meaning to the phrase "Term Limits". It remind me of the old movie "Divorce, Italian Style" which refers to the fact that the only way to divorce your spouse is through his death. In this case, "Term Limits" shows that if Congressmen are not able to self-impose a limit on their terms of office, a good assassin can always show them how it can be done.
At first glance, the story appears unrealistic - killing Congressmen who aren't willing to do what is good for the country instead of focusing on their own agendas, but well into the story, I began to think "this is not so far-fetched" and "many this wold be a good solution to a lot of our country's problems." I really liked the idea that the unknown assassins went to great lengths to make sure no civilians were never caught in the cross-fire, focusing inastead on only the people responsible for the problems.
One comment - I am a person who often finds that when I get home, I want to sit in the car and continue to listen to the story because I can't wait to see what happens next. This audio book was extremely long (over 15 hours), but throughout, I found that I just did not want to stop. I found myself turning the book on while I was cooking or doing housework, just because I wanted to see what happened next,
I highly recommend this to any Flynn followers, but also to anyone who enjoys a political novel that exposes Congressmen's dirty laundry. Happy reading.
I never, ever, EVER fail to finish a book I start.
This was so tedious, and so uninteresting, and so contrived (the story, the dialogue, the overall writing) that I simply couldn't make myself do it.
The characters are not real.
The plot is not believable even if you willingly suspend your disbelief.
I just don't care how it ends.
In fact, I'm looking into whether I can send it back and get a refund...which is something else I almost never do.
I would give it a 3
How I could relate it to the current political events
I was not impressed with the narrator but I thought it was funny when he tried to switch to a female role. Somehow it just didn't work.
I wouldn't make a movie out of this one
Highly recommend this fast paced political drama. Appealing characters and insight into a fictional government underworld. Excellent reader creates memorable characters. Murder, greed, brotherly camaraderie loved those Seals.
