In one bloody night, three of Washington’s most powerful politicians are executed with surgical precision. Their assassins then deliver a shocking ultimatum to the American government: set aside partisan politics and restore power to the people. No one, they warn, is out of their reach—not even the president. A joint FBI-CIA task force reveals the killers are elite military commandos, but no one knows exactly who they are or when they will strike next. Only Michael O’Rourke, a former U.S. Marine and freshman congressman, holds a clue to the violence: a haunting incident in his own past with explosive implications for his country’s future.

Story is okay but I was looking for Mitch to come in at any time. Coleman, Kennedy and Stanfill made it interesting.
Yes and I have at least 9 already.
It ranks in the top half of all the audiobooks I have listened to so far. Given today's environment in Washington, the premise of the story was interesting and timely even though it was written 10 years ago. No Mitch Rapp was slightly disappointing, but it was better in some ways to have many of the familiar characters involved just before his arrival in subsequent books.
Interesting plot, kept the listener engaged.
Similar to other of his narrations. Good narration, nice character differentiation.
Worth the credit.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. This novel had the feel of a first attempt. Fortunately for all of us Flynn has continued to grow and build on some of these characters. I had heard this novel was a little choppy but I really wanted to see where it all began. Thank you Vince Flynn, I love your books.
The plot establishes an underground patriot network resolved to getting the country back on track and do away with entrenched partisan politics. Term Limits it the very best of Vince Flynn!
Congressman Michael O'Rourke and Scott Coleman.
When O'Rourke whipped Stu Garrett in the Oval office.
No any particular moment the overall concept and planning seemed excellently composed.
Outstanding read. I have 9 Vince Flynn audio books. This should be made into screenplay and a movie.
If you are a Vince fan you'll see 'origin of' several characters like the comic books of our youth. Familiar people but nary a mention of Mitch. Vince must have written this on lunch breaks but it is still a great 'secret wish' of any sentient patriot. The editor who said 'wait until you need a break' is fine by me because it gave us a Vince when he needed a break. Buy it! (400 plus titles bought).
boring, somehow. interesting set up, but little drama or danger. I had to make myself finish it.
This is bearable. The characters are not totally shallow, the premise gripping enough to keep me listening, and the physical sequences are punchy and not gory.
Near the end I stopped reading as I didn't really care enough about the characters to endure the "the cavalry is coming" scenes plus what I imagined would be sappy conclusions to the love story.
But hey, I return most of these things after 40 minutes so this is better than most!
I recommend Slow Horses for a really well written one.
And I do recommend this. It's really above average.
It's one of the best.
The plot was a constantly moving target - thought I knew where it was going and all a of sudden something new came up.
Nance got what was coming to him - loved the cover up story!
