Publisher's summary

Audie Award Finalist, Thriller/Suspense, 2014

For 25 years, Robert Crais has written extraordinary novels of crime and suspense. He is "a master of crime fiction" (Associated Press); "his novels get better with every new book" (Portland Oregonian); "Crais is hands-down the world’s greatest crime writer" (The Huffington Post).

But in Suspect, he may have written his most remarkable novel of all.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner.

Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s.

They are each other’s last chance. He was a young cop on the rise; she was bred to guard and protect. Now they are shunned and shunted to the side. They are suspect. And together they will set out to investigate the one case that no one wants them to touch: the identity of the men who murdered Stephanie.

Nine months and sixteen days later, they remained free. They were still out there.

What they begin to find is nothing like what Scott has been told, and where it will lead them will take them both through the darkest moments of their own personal hells. Whether they will make it out again, no one can say.

Thrilling, emotional, intense, with some of the best characters and well-crafted writing in all of crime fiction, Suspect is further proof that "Crais just keeps getting better" (Publishers Weekly).

loved maggie and scott, write more!

i loved maggie's story- the details of her abilities- like, how precise and how much she can smell. plus, the way she related to scott, in the car or when she was afraid or happy. the author must of taken time to know how dogs will act. scott is young and ambitious at the beginning of the story. as the story progressed i liked him more and more as he was learning and changing. scott's youth or inexperience meant he made foolish mistakes, which provoked me a bit. but maggie helped him in several of those occasions. this is only one way that they make a great team. i hope to read many more stories with maggie and scott.

Two point of views. The young officer. The Dog

A gripping story I blasted through in two days out of insatiable greed. This author found a way to write from the dog, Maggie's point of view without sentimentality or manipulation. As a main character she is just as endearing as her Pack leader Scott. I loved this story.

Good dog

Excellent performance in a well paced story. Maybe a little bit predictable but still very enjoyable.

Simple story, but characters make it come alive

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The characters interactions make the novel.

What did you like best about this story?

The connection and the growth of the lead character and his dog.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A few sad moments and a few giggles, which is what I enjoy.

Any additional comments?

The story was interesting, though it was never extreamly suspensful. The interaction of all of the characters, and the dog made it all happen.

Always thought I was a cat person...

But 20 minutes into this and I gained a newfound respect for dogs. Best story I've heard in a very long time!

K9 Trainer

I train K9s for Search and Rescue missions to help recover lost or drowned victims. I love this book for the descriptions from the K9s point of view. The descriptions are spot on as to how a dog discerns scent and as to how I explain it to others who may not understand. This is by far the best book I have "read" through Audible.

A beautiful Dog story

Loved this book by Crais, warm narrative about A dog's loyalty and love for his master. I'm not a dog lover, but Crais made this dog so loving that you understood how the protagonists felt about their animals
This is a mystery with a very different twist. How man and dog came together to solve a crime
Well written and narrated by Macleod Andrews. Never
heard anything by Andrews, but his narration was well done. Will look forward to more stories by Robert Crais

WOW... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

This is a must read/listen. I probably have about 100 books downloaded from Audible and I never write reviews, but absolutely had to for this one! The story was compelling and kept me interested the whole time. How it occasionally told the story from the dog’s view was a great perspective and really added to the story line. Left me in tears at the beginning and at the end, SO GOOD!!

Love dogs love crime love this!

I loved reading this story. The dogs point of view parts were especially fascinating since I always think about what they must be thinking. Story captured my interest quickly and I didn’t want to put it down.
