Publisher's summary

America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high-technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight. Lawless bands of killers roam the countryside, leaving devastation in their wake and now that the government is gone, the Constitution is at stake. Who will carry on?

In this chaotic and dangerous environment, a few families and individuals, bound together by their faith, skills, and foresight, must struggle not only to survive day by day but defend themselves against a new and vicious predator - their fellow man.

Survivors is a shockingly realistic and lightening fast thriller about the coming implosion of America as we know it. Renowned survivalist expert James Wesley, Rawles has packed this story with the cold hard facts about how to stay alive in the face of mass riots, starvation, and anarchy. His expertise lends unforgettable, authentic detail to this season's most chilling novel. Listeners will not only be entralled, they will learn invaluable lessons on how to survive the coming collapse.

Story of being perfectly prepared.

Great story of how to deal with a economic breakdown of society. The only issue is that all parties involved were exactly prepared for this event. With almost no conflict throughout the entire story and unsatisfactory climax. Not a cliffhanger, just no finish to the story.

It was ok

Is there anything you would change about this book?

No. I understand why he wanted to write this book. It makes total sense. It just wasnt my cup of tea. I preferred patriots.

If you’ve listened to books by James Wesley, Rawles before, how does this one compare?

It was good. I love how he name drops. He tells you everything down to the name brand of the equipment being used. I really like that.

Do you think Survivors needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I personally think it should have stopped with patriots. This book was ok but the next book, founders, was going too far. Its like he is running out of fresh material so hes writing the same stuff.

Mediocre, but thought provoking.

What did you like best about Survivors? What did you like least?

I liked the discussion of

Would you be willing to try another book from James Wesley, Rawles? Why or why not?

This is the third book by JWR that I have read. I honestly think he should stick to non-fiction rather than trying to turn a parts list into a novel.

What aspect of Dick Hill’s performance would you have changed?

The part where it involved Dick Hill. He is incredibly mediocre in voice quality, clarity, and emotion. I got used to it eventually, but it was tedious.

Could you see Survivors being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It could be a decent TV series if they pulled in some actual writing talent. However, I would be quite surprised if they did based on the story as it currently stands.

Any additional comments?

Have low expectations; it will be better for it.

Don't be petty

I read many reviews, which complained the story was preachy, I did not find this the case. Other reviews complained all the characters were too "expert", to which I chuckle because anytime you have military personnel, especially from branches such as infantry, ordinance, special operations, etc, they're highly likely to be experts! (and many weren't expert, but rather innovative civilians). I don't know if previous reviewers are anti-God or anti-military, or what, but I found such criticisms petty. Maybe my Christian upbringing and 13+ years in the military have biased me...
Mr. Rawles created an entertaining story which compels you to consider, not only the potential dire circumstance after the collapse of our civilization as we know it, but what you'd do to prepare yourself and family against it and what you would be willing to do to protect your family and property (will you kill indiscriminately to get what you want, or maintain your humanity and civility in such circumstances?) Well written and researched, entertaining and thought provoking. I enjoyed it.

it's okay.

I wish it was better. it's hard to criticize because I haven't written a book. I didn't love the characters, the story was kinda weak. it seriously sounds like a book written by a prepper, lol.

I'd Pass

The story is simple, the characters are bland and have no development. There is too much in this story that just happens to work out in favor of the characters, too much to the point that it becomes ridiculous. Apart from the blatant "religion down your throat" feel, and the simplistic ways in which the obstacles are overcome, this book has no suspense, no thrill and no reason to keep you reading. The only reason I finished it was because I didn't have any credits with which to get another book and I have an hour each way commute.
I enjoyed the first of Rawles' books far more than this and was hoping for something similar. Needless to say that I was very disappointed and I will likely not purchase another of his books. There's much better out there and if I could get a do-over, I'd pass on this one.
