Publisher's summary

America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high-technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight. Lawless bands of killers roam the countryside, leaving devastation in their wake and now that the government is gone, the Constitution is at stake. Who will carry on?

In this chaotic and dangerous environment, a few families and individuals, bound together by their faith, skills, and foresight, must struggle not only to survive day by day but defend themselves against a new and vicious predator - their fellow man.

Survivors is a shockingly realistic and lightening fast thriller about the coming implosion of America as we know it. Renowned survivalist expert James Wesley, Rawles has packed this story with the cold hard facts about how to stay alive in the face of mass riots, starvation, and anarchy. His expertise lends unforgettable, authentic detail to this season's most chilling novel. Listeners will not only be entralled, they will learn invaluable lessons on how to survive the coming collapse.

Scarily a real possibility

Well written with an almost clairvoyant perspective. Each chapter is thoroughly engaging and one can clearly see the reasoning behind the story.

Backend story to Patriots

While this is a backend story to Patriots, you don't need to listen to Patriots before this book - Rawles says this at the start of the book.

Dick Hill did a much better job reading the book, no lame New York accents.

* I received a free copy of this audiobook through AudiobookBlast dot com in exchange for an honest review.

This book was written as a fictional tale of what the author envisions as the inevitable collapse of the world's economy.

I believe that the author set out to achieve two goals by writing this book. He attempted to write a compelling fiction story while also communicating to his readers tips and tricks to help them prepare for the "coming collapse."

The problem with having two such lofty goals for a single book is that the storyline was often placed on the back-burner to go into minute detail about survival strategies. Nowhere in the story is this more readily apparent than when the author starts to go 'on-and-on' about guns and the individual features of each one. I understand the need for a weapon (or possibly even two) if the country were to fall into lawless chaos, however, most readers will probably not care about the make and model of their weapon. All they will care about is whether or not it is reliable and whether or not they will be able to obtain ammunition for it.

I have read quite a few different reviews for "SURVIVORS" and those reviews have been varied. It seems like readers either love this book, or they hate it. There does not seem to be a middle-ground. The major difference between my experience and the experience of the other reviewers whose comments I have read seems to be in what format they "read." I listened to "SURVIVORS" on unabridged audiobook and I am very glad I did. I believe that I would have wanted to stop reading a few times if I was reading a paper or e-copy of this book.

The overly detailed descriptions of guns and their components struck me as tedious and boring. This is also true in the sections about religion. At times I felt like I was being told that if I was not a Christian then I would not survive. This seems simplistic to me.

I enjoyed the part of the story where Anders Lane was trying to return home from his tour of duty overseas to America and the hardships he faced on his journey.

There was another storyline that I enjoyed and that was the woman and her mother who had stockpiled seeds. (I can't remember their names.) However, this storyline gets dropped and readers never find out if they survived or not.

The narration by Dick Hill is very well done. He has a terrific tone and his cadence and pacing are excellent.

Overall I rate this audiobook as 3 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐

Better than the first!!! Survivors is a real novel

Where does Survivors rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

among the top...great plots and character development

What was one of the most memorable moments of Survivors?

The helo, plane, bike, boat, and horse trip for the young LT traveling from AFG to the USA.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great depth in character variety.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Survivors...when "one day at a time" is a stretch, sometimes all you can do is survive.

Any additional comments?

Rawles' first book in this series, Patriots, is awkward...stuck between a how-to-mannual and a novel. Survivors is much smoother, an easy read with incredible character development that draws in the reader, has them begging for more, and asking...when is the next novel coming out?????

Patriots, the next chapter

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes,This is a good book, but it is the same story with the same people as Patriots,it's just an in depth back ground on some of the people. I think Rawles may have needed some fast money or had a contract to fill fast. There is nothing new in this book. It would be a great novel if he had taken the two books and put them in the same covers.

Would you ever listen to anything by James Wesley, Rawles again?

Yes

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

I liked all of them, he did a great job

Did Survivors inspire you to do anything?

no

Any additional comments?

As I said it should have been put with Patriots and written like Steven King does, you know real long, in detail so you know the smell of the dust on the lamp, then it would have been a great novel not just a story.

Listened to it through in a couple days. Excellent story and not too predictable. Kind of a prequel to the patriots
