Publisher's summary
When an old friend buys a trench coat and opens his own detective agency, PI Cat DeLuca sees a train wreck coming. Everything Billy Bonham knows about being a private eye he learned from Humphrey Bogart. And that’s just enough to make him dangerous.
The bungling detective is in way over his head on a case involving murder and a stolen pair of Marilyn Monroe’s dazzling diamond earrings. His outrageous client, Cristina McTigue, is pursued by men who want her dead. Five minutes after meeting the woman, Cat would cheerfully kill her too.
When Billy is gunned down on the street, it’s up to Cat to save his crazy client and nail a murderer. She soon finds herself knee-deep in trouble, dodging bullets and chasing diamonds. Before it’s over, she’ll have to look for help from her sexy FBI boyfriend, a hunky ex-spy, her outrageous Italian family of Chicago cops, and even her interfering mama.
With a cast of zany characters and a pace that’s unrelenting, K. J. Larsen serves up another laugh-out-loud Cat DeLuca caper.

Story
It's been said that all great literature boils down to one of two stories—a man takes a journey, or a stranger comes to town. While mystery writers have been successfully using both approaches for generations, there's something undeniably alluring in the nature of a stranger: the uninvited guest, the unacquainted neighbor, the fish out of water. In the newest collection of stories by the Mystery Writers of America, each author weaves a fresh tale surrounding the eerie feeling that comes when a stranger enters our midst, featuring stories by prolific mystery writers.

Story
Bopped on the head from a falling plastic Santa, local undertaker Emma Lee Raines is told she's suffering from "funeral trauma." It's trauma all right, because the not-so-dearly departed keep talking to her. Take Ruthie Sue Payne - innkeeper, gossip queen, and arch-nemesis of Emma Lee's granny - she's adamant that she didn't just fall down those stairs. She was pushed. Ruthie has no idea who wanted her pushing up daisies, but she can't cross over until the matter is laid to eternal rest. Emma Lee's high-school crush, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross, isn't ready to rule out foul play.

I can't say they didn't warn me. Right now, I realize: I probably should have listened. Because if there's anyone who has no business playing a sport that requires a helmet, pads, and a liability waiver, it's this girl. The same girl who once knocked herself out during a game of backyard baseball. I stepped up to the plate, pulled the bat back a little too far to swing, and clocked myself in the back of the skull. Boom. Lights Out Lucy. That's how I got my roller derby name. So yeah. Maybe I should have known better.

Cat Deluca is a Funny and Smart Heroine!
The third installment in this series, Cat Deluca is laugh out loud funny. She briefly reminds you of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, but she's got a style all her own. There are some stalled part of this novel but if you are looking for light read and and some fun you don't really have to think about this series might be worth checking out!
Vanessa Hart is good narrator.
