Publisher's summary

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.

Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list.

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake-off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie.

With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie’s life looks like it’s about to go up in smoke.

Critic reviews

"No less than her plotting, Evanovich’s characterizations are models of screwball artistry. . . . The intricate plot machinery of her comic capers is fueled by inventive twists.” (The New York Times)

“Chutzpah and sheer comic inventiveness.... The Evanovich/Plum books [are] good fun.” (The Washington Post)

Yet another Smokin' hit for Janet Evanovich

If you could sum up Smokin' Seventeen in three words, what would they be?

True to Stephanie Plum form!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

One never knows what mishap waits around the corner for Ms Stephanie

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I absolutely LOVE Ms King's interpretation of the characters' personalities and voices AMAZING

Great to listen to!

A tad predictable but well done just the same! Was hoping for more, but still entraining. Characters are still great and the narrator is excellent!

Loved, Loved it!

Love all the much anticipated interaction with Ranger. Lula was a colorful as ever. I did miss seeing as much from Grandma is normally included.

It is the same but in a good way

Ok yes do all the book sound the same. However if you just want to listen to something while doing other things the books are great, and they are funny. And yes you do know how the end early on,again they are funny though.

Not the best voices...

What did you like best about Smokin' Seventeen? What did you like least?

I really enjoyed this book, however the voices just didn't match up for a lot of the characters.

Did Lorelei King do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I enjoyed the voices for Connie, Vinnie, Grandma and Moonier...but not for Stephanie, Ranger, Morelli and Lulu.

Any additional comments?

This was the first audiobook from this series that I listened too, I may go back to reading them instead of listening.

Predictable but entertaining...

I always enjoy the Stephanie Plum novels because I love the lively characters. However, the murderer in this one was a little predictable. I knew who it was immediately... I'd like for Janet to keep me guessing a little bit in the next one. Either way, I still enjoyed the journey and eagerly await number 18!

Good read

As usual, this was funny and fast-paced, and I like the narrator, which is a big part of any audio book. And I am definitely looking forward to the next one. Stephanie Plum is a disaster magnet and it just makes reading the book delightful.
