Publisher's summary

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

Somewhere in the middle...

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'm not sure. If I were honest, I would admit that I have a love/hate relationship with mysteries. I love to read them but I always hate waiting until the end to finally know how the pieces fit. I felt the same about Six Years but my wish for the end was not anticipation - it was mild annoyance.

Like everyone else in the story, I wanted Jake to just let it go. If you remove all of the encouragements for Jake to let it go or leave it alone and all of the reminders to Jake that he wouldn't get it or didn't/wouldn't understand I'm not sure you would have a lot of dialogue left in the story. It all seems to gel in the end but it took a very long time to get there.

So, yes I might recommend this book to a friend but I would also recommend a double shot of patience as the author slowly and over-dialogues his way to the conclusion.

Now the performance.... The performance was interesting in a over-the-top dramatic sort of way. I wonder how much the emotion/meaning in the storyline changed because of the dramatics of the narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Scott Brick’s performances?

Everyone deserves a second chance. I can not say I will avoid him but I will not go searching for stories he's narrated.

A Good Mystery Thriller

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There is some very crucial information that is withheld until the very end. The reader never has a chance to fully figure out what has caused all the problems. That is one way to approach a story, a very suprising ending. However, many readers will find this very frustrating. Basically the author finally reveals what happened to a key character six years ago, and that event is the fundamental cause of most of the mystery.

What do you think your next listen will be?

First Family by Baldacci.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

I found the first person narrative made me feel like I was experiencing the story first hand.

Could you see Six Years being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No, a movie audience would never stand for all the characters revealing their true selves at the very end.

Great story

I enjoyed this book so much I didn't wanted to end! This is part suspense and part love story but not mushy gushy kind of love story. I found it very entertaining, somewhat believable and the performance was excellent. I didn't want to stop listening to it! I will look for more by this author. I received this at no charge in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Twists amd Turns

I loved the many angles the story line took. A great listen. When I can't figure it all out too much before it's revealed it's a plus. Scott Brick is one of my favorite readers too. A+

WOW LOTS OF TWISTS

I really enjoyed this book. I like Harlan Coben in his series, but this was the first non-series book I have listened to. It was great. I never knew what would happen next. As soon as I thought I had it figured, there would be another twist and turn. So good, you have got to read it.

Another winner

Brick delivers another great read. This one from Coben keeps you guessing. I like how he subtly inserts little things from his Bulitar series into his other books. As always, a great listen from Coben.

Five stars all around !!

Would you consider the audio edition of Six Years to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version.

What other book might you compare Six Years to and why?

At first, i thought this was going to be similar to Tell No One, also by Harlan Coben. I will admit, I was very disappointed. Thank goodness I was wrong.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

I had only listened to one other book narrated by Scott Brick and the story was so awful, it completely took away from the talents of Mr. Brick. I very much enjoyed this narration. He is excellent when it comes to multiple voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I pretty much did. If sleep wasnt so necessary, I probably would have.

Any additional comments?

This was an excellent book. I had heard and read so many positive reviews of this book so I decided to try it myself. I am so glad I did. I enjoyed it tremendously.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His preformance, truly brought some realism to the events

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
