Publisher's summary

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

Great thriller!

What did you love best about Six Years?

I truly did not know what was going on. I was just as confused as Jake.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Natalie. She had amazing strength (and I don't mean physically).

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did, but I wasn't able to.

Any additional comments?

This was a great book, and a good performance.

Unavoidably Addicting

Coben's "Six Years" is an irresistible journey. The twists and turns of the novel take you to the height of curiosity, so much you cannot even hit the pause button. While it is not classic literature, or even a classic in its genre, it fits so well to the mystery archetype the shallowness of the underlying plot is never even noticed. The character development is excellent, and relating to them is easy. The narration is apt for this type of fiction, not over delivered as is sometimes the case. Definitely worth a listen, just make sure to juice up your iPod before hitting the play button.

Too Drwan Out

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, it moved very slowly. By time the plot was revealed, you wanted to slap the main character (if he existed that is). It was unbelievable also, anyone would have given up long before the main character did. Also, will someone please tell Harlan Coben that not all African Americans use incorrect English. Some of us are actually well read and speak the language well. Notice I didn't say good.

Would you recommend Six Years to your friends? Why or why not?

No, for the reasons above. Too slow.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a talented narrator, one of the best. If he masters African American voices, he will be great. I haven't heard one that's believable yet. His narration adds drama and intrigue.

Do you think Six Years needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, the original was too long.

A page-turner!

This one was a definite page-turner. Parts of it were predictable but there were still plenty of twists and turns to keep me reading, anxious to get all the details. I switched back and forth between the audio and the kindle and I enjoyed the print version more. While Scott Brick is usually a solid narrator, I was not overly fond of his reading for this book. His cadence and intonation just didn't fit the character for me. He wasn't horrible, but the voice in my head was better this time around. Definitely well worth reading!

Except for the cheesy love talk...

As a mystery it's not bad.

I got tired of the hero's continuing proclamations of LOVE. I really do like the narrator. I have heard him before and, except for the lovey-dovey ("I cannot live my life without her; I would rather die...") that sounds more like a heaving bosom paperback, the narrator is good. You may want to wait for a sale - or try the library.
