Publisher's summary

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

Interesting, Intelligent and Engaging

Would you listen to Six Years again? Why?

Listening to this again will be a treat. This story had lots of nuances and story twists that I'll enjoy even more the second time.

What did you like best about this story?

The craft of writing was excellent; for audio books, however, even the best story can be ruined by a poor narration performance. In this case the performance was on par with the literature.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene that stands out in my memory was when Jake returned to Vermont, only to find out every trace of the place he remembered had vanished. At this point the reader would never suspect the real story...

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Relentless Love

Any additional comments?

This story relies on great storytelling, rather than action scenes (although there are some) or torrid love scenes (although there is a great love present). It is just satisfying experience that I look forward to enjoying again.

Hmmm…

It’s ok, I got it on sale so I guess it was worth the price but it got fairly tedious towards the end. Maybe I’ve just never had that kind of love interest but I really think it was just laid on a bit too thick. Suspenseful, yes but to the point of frustration. Of course he can’t let it go. Wouldn’t be a book if he did. But damn! I think it could have benefited from some editing. Got too drawn out. The “hook” at the end was even kind of predictable to me. Oh well. I read it. It’s over. Next. I’ve heard enough readings from this narrator to expect excellent acting and got it. Maybe too much.

Wow!

A great story of love and secrecy and lies. The way Jake loves Natalie. A love everyone wants. Nothing stands in his way to find her. He will uncover whatever conspiracy so he can get to her, even after six years. He will get through being kidnapped, shot at, hit in the head, trespassed whoever’s house to unravel the information that will lead to her. The truth is crazy when he finds out, she wants him to stay away! As stubborn as he is, he will not give up! Until he has to…. A great twist and story of love and lies! Secrets that get buried with the dead, or so he thought!

contrived

Expected more from the author. Hard to imagine anyone appreciating the self-involved whiny, prissy protagonist and I had to force myself to finish this book.

Original story

Not until the last hour did I find out “who done it” and “why”. Sometimes listening to a book I’d say “ that’s a stupid move” or “ of course that happened”. This book was pretty realistic, where everything that was done was pretty plausible. Good suspense and tense at times. Big fan of the author and narrator. I wasn’t disappointed and finished it in a day and a half.

Really, really good "listen"

If you could sum up Six Years in three words, what would they be?

Really good listen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jake was my favorite character even though he was a flawed, flawed man. Perhaps it was his flaws that made him likeable. If he were my brother or friend, I'd advise him to see a therapist for his inability to let "sleeping dogs lie." But it is also one of the elements that kept this story moving like a freight train through the night.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott did a reasonably good job with this material. I've heard better interpreters, but I've also heard worst. He worked for me.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Victim or villain?

Any additional comments?

I "read" audio books when I drive, clean house, walk the dogs, or work in the yard. However, I could not turn this one off. I've got the cleanest house in the neighborhood and I have this book to either thank or blame.

Coban never disappoints

Loved the book and the thrilling details. I can always figure it out though ;) I guess I missed my calling as a detective. I loved the characters
I was ok with the guys voice. I had to turn up the speed slightly in some points the pauses seemed too long but for the most parts it was good. I’m glad he didn’t do voices for the women characters. I did like the Boston accents though. Nice job
