    "Good Listen"

Anybody that doesn't enjoy this book needs to stop reading mystery fiction. Starts quick and keeps going. Above average twists and turns and well narrated with good voices and more plausible than many I've read. I find that male narrators do women's voices better than women do men.

Get this book and have some fun.

    "Evil-dripping characters"

What I liked most about this book was the pure evilness of several of the characters. What I liked least about this book was some untied ends at its conclusion. To say more would spoil it. In general, though, this book was a good listen and should please most readers of this genre.

    "Another Perry Smash"

Maybe I'm still reeling from Michael Kramer's disappointing reading of Perry's mediocre "Dead Aim", but I'm a little more critical of him than in the past. Especially since I listened to Shelly Frasier exciting read of Perry's 'Nightlife' since I heard the disappointing 'Dead Aim'. Okay, I'll recover, and really, this Kramer reading keeps him within the top ten talents I've enjoyed at Audio Books.

'Silence' is serious, but very serious. fun. No, it's not comedic tromp by any imagination. It's about killers, blood, baseball bat beatings, and all of the other good stuff we live for in current mysteries (!) And Perry's characters are each solid links in this story's chain.

You are lucky if you've not heard a Thomas Perry novel… Why? Because so far, except for 'Strip' and 'Dead Aim' I've heavily enjoyed the other ten novels of his I've listened to so far and look forward to more. Perry is one of the best mystery writers today and in spite of the "secrets" that the distressed damsel holds back, almost implausibly, until the novel's end (hence my 4 rather than 5 stars for the story…

This tale of killers versus a riddled-with-ethical-angst, big shouldered P.I. is old school fine. Overall it is more than the sum of its parts.

"Perry is such a master of suspense"
    Any additional comments?

I have read five Perry books. The Butcher's Boy trilogy is by far the best, but Fidelity and Silence were surely in the running. and I enjoyed both, as well. He has an incredibly fascinating way of writing tightly would suspense. Since all five books were narrated by Michael Kramer, I cannot imaging reading a Perry book narrated by anyone else. Kramer is a master. There were four major characters in Silence, two men and two women, and Kramer does all four of them masterfully, giving each a different voice. I am always amazed by how skillfully he does the opposite sex. There was as much of a story for the bad guys, a married couple, as there was for the good guys. I actually enjoyed the bad guys more than the good guys.

"Brilliant prose for an action adventure novel"
What did you love best about Silence?

The way Mr. Perry crafts a character, with beautiful economy and a wonderful sense of social psychology is a treat.

Who was your favorite character and why?

They are all well drawn--it feels just like a movie with great casting

What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?

Mr. Kramer is one of the absolute best--up there with George Guidall. I really appreciate the lack of histrionic vocal gymnastics--he is tight, spare, with wonderful pace.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

With the wonderful plotting and the top flight narration, I could have listened forever!

    Any additional comments?

I have listened to over 500 books from Audible--this author/narrator combination really deserve your attention

    "Narrator puts on ridiculous voices."

Perfect book for audio. Unfortunately, the narrator puts on ludicrous voices for the bad guy (sounds like Chris Parnell, hard to take seriously) and every woman in the story. (They weakly sigh out every word.) I will avoid this narrator in the future.

    Story
    "Typical Thomas Perry"
What did you love best about Silence?

Story immediately pulls you in, in spite of the violence. Like other Thomas Perry books, one learns "how to do" things if you want to disappear. All his books become "self-help" if you need to disappear or overcome violence.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Performance was okay, it does not become the focus. It allows the story to be the focus.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    To live, disappear smart!

"I Felt Cheated at the End"

Unless there is a follow-up to this book -- I Felt Cheated at the End. It seemed like a really good book, things were going well, then it just ended abruptly. I felt cheated and somewhat violated. Just another chapter or two could have ended it nicely. Perhaps there is another book coming, otherwise I feel there was NO closure. I can't sleep at night now, I am not eating well, I can't perform in the bedroom any longer, I feel cheated after giving it so much.
