NOW AN HBO® LIMITED SERIES STARRING AMY ADAMS, NOMINATED FOR EIGHT EMMY AWARDS, INCLUDING OUTSTANDING LIMITED SERIES FROM THE NUMBER ONE NEW YORK TIMES BEST-SELLING AUTHOR OF GONE GIRL

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story - and survive this homecoming.

Critic reviews

  • Mystery Writers of America 2007 Edgar Nominee, Best First Novel by an American Author

"A witty, stylish, and compelling debut. A real winner." (Harlan Coben)

"Flynn delivers a great whodunit.... Piercingly effective and genuinely terrifying." (Kirkus Reviews)

"To say this is a terrific debut novel is really too mild. I haven't read such a relentlessly creepy family saga since John Farris' All Heads Turn as the Hunt Goes By, and that was 30 years ago, give or take. Sharp Objects isn't one of those scare-and-retreat books; its effect is cumulative. I found myself dreading the last 30 pages or so but was helpless to stop turning them. Then, after the lights were out, the story just stayed there in my head, coiled and hissing, like a snake in a cave. An admirably nasty piece of work, elevated by sharp writing and sharper insights." (Stephen King)

Very Interesting and Disturbing Story

I read this to get more information about the story after watching the movie. The movie was very well done, and the story is very disturbing.

Chilling

This explains all the little nuances in the TV version that could never be shown properly. The writing is Devine (naturally) and it makes the words on Camille's skin come to life in a deliciously disturbing way.

This was an absolutely thrilling book.

I enjoyed the narrator very much. From the very beginning, up until the very end, this book was just so interesting. There were moments where I would stop dead in my tracks from complete shock. I enjoyed it very much. The show on this book is awesome too! It captures the books emotions exactly. I've been watching only what I've listened to in this book, but I ended up marathoning the last 3 chapters because they were so intense! Now I get to watch the rest of the episodes. I recommend this book to anyone searching for an awesome mystery!

A true twist

A deeply personal story that keeps you guessing. This story has a twist you’d never think of but in today’s world never doubt.

The Show Was Better

I just finished listening to the audiobook. The narrator did a wonderful job and I really could feel the separation of characters.

I admit, I probably would not of finished this book if I was actually reading it. It's slow, like REALLY slow. While it is interesting, I think this was a perfect audiobook. I listen to books while I do chores, crochet or drive. So sometimes my mind wanders and I get distracted from the story, and I usually will rewind it a minute or two. With Sharp Objects that wasn't needed since I know I did not miss anything huge.

Camille's story is heartbreaking and dark, but most of the book is her just drinking and driving around, sometimes chatting with people.

The last quarter of the book definitely was better and made it worth reading.

It's good, but not suprising

It was a good story with a good performance, but I wasn't surprised by (what I think) was supposed to be the twist. Or twists. There were only two parts that surprised me a little bit, but if you were paying attention at all, the twists seem predictable really early on in the story.

Enjoyable Listen With Plot Twists

I got Audible because I wanted to listen about business development and self-help books. It got a little monotonous so I took a chance and got this book.
I do enjoy mysteries and thrillers and this was a fun listen. It was interesting from the beginning. I just didn’t know where the story was going.
The main character is very gritty and makes some shocking decisions. Well, shocking to me. I’m like, “Girl, what are you doing?????” I line that about this book.
Take a chance, get the book!
