NOW AN HBO® LIMITED SERIES STARRING AMY ADAMS, NOMINATED FOR EIGHT EMMY AWARDS, INCLUDING OUTSTANDING LIMITED SERIES FROM THE NUMBER ONE NEW YORK TIMES BEST-SELLING AUTHOR OF GONE GIRL

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story - and survive this homecoming.

Critic reviews

  • Mystery Writers of America 2007 Edgar Nominee, Best First Novel by an American Author

"A witty, stylish, and compelling debut. A real winner." (Harlan Coben)

"Flynn delivers a great whodunit.... Piercingly effective and genuinely terrifying." (Kirkus Reviews)

"To say this is a terrific debut novel is really too mild. I haven't read such a relentlessly creepy family saga since John Farris' All Heads Turn as the Hunt Goes By, and that was 30 years ago, give or take. Sharp Objects isn't one of those scare-and-retreat books; its effect is cumulative. I found myself dreading the last 30 pages or so but was helpless to stop turning them. Then, after the lights were out, the story just stayed there in my head, coiled and hissing, like a snake in a cave. An admirably nasty piece of work, elevated by sharp writing and sharper insights." (Stephen King)

Fantastic listen! Highly recommended.

I had an idea where it was going from early on but still didn't see it ending the way it did. Give it a chance and you'll be hooked.

Sooooooo good.

IT‘S SO GOOD AND SO TWISTY. This is my first audio book and while it was weird to listen at first the story is so good it draws you in almost immediately. Definitely recommend.

This story made my stomach hurt!

This book is well written, but deeply disturbing. The story is more violent and gruesome than Gone Girl. And at times, it was difficult to get through. Book contains troubling sexual descriptions, drug and alcohol use, desciptions of body mutilations.
As far as the mystery aspect, the plot is quick and keeps interest. And the ending is understandable but unexpected.
For the narration, I thought the pace was very slow, and would have preferred a quicker reading with more inflection for the voice of the main character.

Worth a credit

Great listen but a little predictable. Hard to hear of all the suffering but well developed and not cliche. Easy to listen to while working. Performance was great. Not distracting and seemed to fit with characters.

Gillian Flynn amazes again!

If you could sum up Sharp Objects in three words, what would they be?

Fascinating, Disturbing, Surprising

What other book might you compare Sharp Objects to and why?

I compared this book to "Gone Girl", because it is by the same author. It does not disappoint. The two stories could not be more different however, they both are well written, captivating novels.

Very dark

I am never sure the purpose of these books that make up the darkest, most horrible characters for little reason other than shock. Disturbing book but passed the time on walks.

Wow! Great novel!

The narrator was great. I struggled a little at the beginning to keep up with the story and had to go back a few times to listen to parts again. I wouldn't have had this issue if i had read the book but sometimes it can be hard for me to remember names, dates, etc. in audiobooks. Great storyline and had me hooked after chapter 4 or so.
