Publisher's summary

Relic, a Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child thriller that introduces FBI Special Agent Pendergast

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human....

But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders.

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who - or what - is doing the killing. But can she do it in time to stop the massacre?

Prolong the suspense: listen to the sequel, Reliquary.

Critic reviews

"With its close-up view of museum life and politics, plausible scientific background, sharply drawn characters and a plot line that's blissfully free of gratuitous romance, this well-crafted novel offers first-rate thrills and chills." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Wildly cool....Thrill hounds couldn't ask for a creepier environment....a thriller staged in the world's scariest building, with no room for the squeamish." ( Kirkus Reviews)

Very good story BUT...

Very good but a bit long. I enjoyed the story and suspense but began to get bored with it towards the end. The last few chapters seemed repetitive and lost the thrill of suspense to the point where I just wanted them to get along with the story. Either kill the characters off or don't, but don't drag it out to the point where I no longer care if they live or die.
I do not want to give any spoiler so I won't elaborate but if you listen to the book I think you will know what I am talking about. However. as stated earlier, I did enjoy the book (for the most part), just could have/should have been shorter.

I can’t hear you.

Many times in the story I couldn’t hear what the guy was saying. I drive truck and many times he decided to whisper rather that talk in a low tone. Different is you can hear low tone not whispers. But that probably just me. The female voices were poorly done. That’s all

This story was a great work. I don't know which author I like more! Good character development and serious suspension!

RIVETING

I'm only 1/3 of the way thru the book but it has captivated my interest. The author definitely did extensive research! This book is descriptive, educating, exciting and the narration is among the best I've heard. You can follow along without the ongoing "he said, she exclaimed" etc. Accents are on spot on and story told with excellent emotion. Very enjoyable listen!!!

Slow start. Bang up ending

Too much detail in the beginning that it made for a very slow start. but if you can muddle past that part, it's a good read.

Entertaining and better than the movie

I would say a all around good book, some characters are lame and bits of the story annoying, but easily looked past, the one thing I thought was cool which was the use of reverb to make it sound like the characters are in a basement or tunnel got annoying later on.
