Publisher's summary

Relic, a Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child thriller that introduces FBI Special Agent Pendergast

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human....

But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders.

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who - or what - is doing the killing. But can she do it in time to stop the massacre?

Prolong the suspense: listen to the sequel, Reliquary.

Critic reviews

"With its close-up view of museum life and politics, plausible scientific background, sharply drawn characters and a plot line that's blissfully free of gratuitous romance, this well-crafted novel offers first-rate thrills and chills." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Wildly cool....Thrill hounds couldn't ask for a creepier environment....a thriller staged in the world's scariest building, with no room for the squeamish." ( Kirkus Reviews)

Gruesome, long and unwieldy

I was drawn to the science and Pendergast. Unfortunately, the story drags endlessly and is far longer than necessary with far more boring detail and dead bodies than necessary. In the end it becomes dystopian rather than fun science.

Hard to put down

I had this story years ago on cassette tape and I lost it. When I found it on audible I had to get it again for my collection. I thonk the most memorable part was at the end when the good Dr found out that the monster was the leader of the the original expedition

Great Read!

Where does Relic rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I loved the hunger game books but I would definitely put this book up there with it. I am definitely going to read book 2, the Reliquary.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pendergast of course! Buy this audible and you will understand why!

What does David Colacci bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is by far my favorite reader to date! He does a great job with different voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are many great moments so I can't really choose just one.

Any additional comments?

This is a great listen. Scary, but not. Keeps you interested and wondering what will happen next? Is it real?

Entertaining

Any additional comments?

This book seemed like a movie, in a way. It was written well -- good dialog, vocabulary, and the like. But the plot was just very movie like. I guess that's not a bad thing.

The narrator was outstanding!!!

Overall, I think it was entertaining, if a tad long.

Thrill ride on its own.

This book is way more detailed than the movie. I know lots of people didn't like the movie, unfortunately I have a love for B rated monster movies so I like the movie. I like the book even better. I have worked my way through book 4 in this series now and I enjoyed all of them. This book was written over 20 years which makes it somewhat dated. There is a sit on the edge of your seat feeling throughout. Don't listen to the abridged version it sucks. Reliquary is an extension of this book, it starts off exactly where this one left off. Another awesome book by this author is The Timex, it is sort of a Indiana Jones type book.
