Publisher's summary

Relic, a Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child thriller that introduces FBI Special Agent Pendergast

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human....

But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders.

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who - or what - is doing the killing. But can she do it in time to stop the massacre?

Prolong the suspense: listen to the sequel, Reliquary.

Critic reviews

"With its close-up view of museum life and politics, plausible scientific background, sharply drawn characters and a plot line that's blissfully free of gratuitous romance, this well-crafted novel offers first-rate thrills and chills." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Wildly cool....Thrill hounds couldn't ask for a creepier environment....a thriller staged in the world's scariest building, with no room for the squeamish." ( Kirkus Reviews)

I bought this on a BOGO free and ended liking the book. This is a good read if you want an interesting book and a light read.

Great until the end

I really enjoy Preston/Child novels however on occasion the endings are just insane. The ending of this book is once such example, if a one egg omelet is good a 5 egg omelet must be amazing!

I love the detail, the science research and the story lines but sometimes an ending doesn't have to be so over the top. This review could be of about 50% of their books.

Still excellent after all these years

Still a timely, well told story. A great introduction to Pendergast and D'Agusta. A creepy setting with a scary monster and you have all the ingredients for a perfect Preston/Child novel. Still one of their best.

I was great

What else can I say? I loved it. It starts off nice and slow for the reader, introduces mystery and then reels you in with great characters and a museum beast!

WOW! Literally a nail biter!

I got this book to save for my Halloween reading, but ended up inhaling it in one day. Will *definitely* listen again in the fall. The characters are amazing and the narrator does an amazing job of distinctively voicing each one. I also give five stars because I can't handle super-gory books, and this book relies more on psychological terror rather than detailed descriptions of torture/gore. My only question - was D'Agusto's first name Lou, or Vincent? He was called both by different characters at different times. A very minor quibble with an otherwise great book!

Glad I Stumbled on This!

I found this book by accident, but I'm already hooked, and downloaded it's sequel! This action thriller is exciting, suspenseful, and just creepy enough to be great fun! The characterization of Special Agent Pendergast is brilliant! Preston and Child's have a real winner in "Relic"!
