Publisher's summary

Relic, a Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child thriller that introduces FBI Special Agent Pendergast

Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human....

But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders.

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who - or what - is doing the killing. But can she do it in time to stop the massacre?

Prolong the suspense: listen to the sequel, Reliquary.

Critic reviews

"With its close-up view of museum life and politics, plausible scientific background, sharply drawn characters and a plot line that's blissfully free of gratuitous romance, this well-crafted novel offers first-rate thrills and chills." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Wildly cool....Thrill hounds couldn't ask for a creepier environment....a thriller staged in the world's scariest building, with no room for the squeamish." ( Kirkus Reviews)

Not Bad

I enjoyed it but wouldn't say that it's the best book that I've read.

The narration was reasonable and the story a bit predicable.

Excellent Download

This was a great purchase. The dramatization was excellent. It definitely kept you involved with the story. Definitely not for children.

Reminds me of the old 'nightstalker' series

This is a book you will get into and like and later when you try to tell someone about it it will sound silly. I think it is just one of those books to read just because its fun, has a quick plot and will make the commute happen much more quickly. I liked it and I am going to listen to the next one and probably the one after that too.

good

good. I had to force myself through a lot of technical info that I could care less about. the author was either trying to tell us all how very much he knew about details zzzzzzz or he was trying to increase page count.

Great Mystery

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Whatever you do make sure you listen to the epilogue.

ultimately intriguing

I was initially dissatisfied with this book. Around chapter 13, it took off like gangbusters and I couldn't leave it. I'm definitely glad I stuck with it.

Monster of the Museum

Nice story, I began to wonder about Pendergast and Margo being the protagonists. Seemed like the antagonist was everyone else! The ending did surprise, tho.

soild four 4 stars

I felt that this is a great story, how ever a little dry.
I can see why some of the characters were written out of the movie.

Relic

Would you listen to Relic again? Why?

I would probably listen to Relic again because I was turning the pages so fast that I am sure I missed some of the details. I didn't see the movie and from what I have read in the reviews, it probably is a good thing I missed it.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the strong characters within the story. However, it was the epilogue that did it for me because it answered every question I had during the story. I can't think of a question that wasn't answered. I have read books where the story ended and I'm asking, "yeah, but what about....?" That isn't the case in this book.

Another thing I liked about the story was that this book could have really been a gory piece of literature. Certainly people died in a very unpleasant way but the details of the gore were left to the imagination of the reader. I have really grown tired of authors who think that they must explain every detail of a story.

What about David Colacci’s performance did you like?

I would love to listen to more books read by David Colacci. He kept the suspense and tension of the story balanced. He didn't over dramatize the scary moments which added to the story. He enhanced the story by allowing the words of the author to carry the tension. I thought he didn't a fine job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked the first couple of chapters, the young boys, Margo trying to escape certain death and the book making her desperation so clear. There were many moments which moved me.
